P.O.V. Scarlett

Vinnie opened the taxi door for me, reaching out, smiling firmly grabbing her.

He had asked his driver to take the clothes I bought for him to my house, so we went by taxi to the Police Department. Without letting go of my hand, he paid the taxi driver and together we entered the Police Station.

At the concierge, we found Dad and Larray talking.

- Oh, they've finally arrived! - Dad exclaimed approaching us, I saw Larray smiling maliciously, for sure knew what Vinnie and I did, rolled my eyes, ignoring him.

- Have you ever made your statement, Dad?

- Yes. You'll be next. They're with Jane now.

- Did she say anything?

- She's testifying. But he seems to have an alibi. - I saw Vinnie taking a deep breath.

I didn't know if he felt relieved or worried. I was worried. She wasn't in the apartment was another factor against Vinnie.

Discouraged I leaned on him who hugged me by giving a loving kiss on my forehead.

They continued to talk about something, but I didn't pay much attention, I hugged Vinnie waiting for my turn to enter the testimonial room, I was already tired of all that situation.

I wonder when they would find out the truth.

While they focussed only on Vinnie, the real killer was on the loose and could kill someone again... What if the next victim was Vinnie? I squeezed him a little harder and he did the same in return. Maybe even thinking the same as me.

- Mr. Hacker?! - everyone looked when the blonde and short woman approached us with an anxious smile.

- Jane...

- I'm sorry, Mr. Hacker, I shouldn't have left the apartment, but the Lord always said, that if I had any problems to solve, I could leave work early without having to warn you.

- Yes, I said... - Vinnie murmured her looking dismayed. - And what problem did you have?

- Ummm, well, my girlfriend was a little sick and called me. As everything was in order and the Lord had said he would not have dinner at home, I believed it would be okay if I left early. Forgive me, Mr. Hacker, I'm sorry... - he asked again.

- All right... - Vinnie murmured vilely, I imagine still trying to understand the story told by Jane.

I was surprised by the word "girlfriend" said by her.

Did she tell the truth? Would that girlfriend be your alibi? Would it be Dixie? My head was at a thousand. But nothing really fit or made sense. I definitely wouldn't be able to be an Detective.

- Scarlett it's your turn... - Larray called and I nodded, Vinnie kissed my lips quickly and threw me an encouraging smile.

I followed Larray, while Jane was still trying to explain the facts to Vinnie.

When we were far enough away, I questioned Larray.

- Do you think she tells the truth? - He snorted.

- Maybe so, maybe not... As the cameras in Vinnie's building were turned off, it is difficult to specify at the exact time she left the apartment. She left the building through the garage, but her car has dark windows, by the way, like many cars around here. Even the victim's had... The only glimpse of a man is through the window of one of the cars. Honestly, I want to believe it was intentional. The person who killed the girl, for sure, knew about the camera problems.
