"How did you know my mother?" I ask sitting across from him. We moved this whole awkward ordeal to the living room. I am sitting on the couch across from this William man while Jeremy stands next to me almost in front of me. Rich stands behind me and Vincent is on my left. All three men surrounding me looking as intimidating as ever while the man sitting in front of me looks unfazed.
One thing for sure, this room is oozing with testosterone and I don't like it.
"We served together in the navy a long long time ago," he says softly.
"The navy? My mother was in the navy?"
"Yes, she kind of took me under her wing when I joined. We became very close friends. Although she was my boss and my mentor I considered her one of my best friends, even with our age gap. Sadly I left for reasons that are not relevant to this conversation, and she left when she became pregnant."
"Do you have any pictures? Why have I never heard about this before? And I am confused how old are you?"
"I don't have any pictures, actually I was on my way to the airport and I summed up the courage to stop here. I know you have probably heard this before but you look exactly like her," he smiles looking at me admirably. "As for my age we can discuss that another time."
"What is it you want? What was your purpose for coming here tonight? How did you even find out where she lived?" Jeremy snaps at him.
"Jeremy!" I scold him but once again William simply looks unintimidated.
"It's okay, I know it's weird but me and your mom were very close. I saw the wedding you did in Jamaica on a bunch of wedding blogs and they name dropped you. Everyone knows about the Kage name. I work in a business where it's very easy for me to find out things about people."
It's true. Before I knew the truth about my mothers tragedy I never really name dropped that much and when I did people would look at me weird but I would just ignore it.
"What was she like?" I feel myself sit up straight and I feel my excitement come in. Gerald knew my mother yes, but he only met her while she was already pregnant. William knew her before, before she was the tragedy that was Serenity Kage. She was someone, not just a symbol for Black Lives Matter.
"I would love to tell you all about Siren. Thats what we called her. It was a joke like siren of the seas because she used to yell, a lot," he chuckled. "But like I said I just stopped here on the way to the airport, I have to go to Germany for business tonight but my flight isn't for a few hours. If you don't mind I would like to meet with you after I return for lunch or something. It would be my honor to tell you all about your mother."
"Wow I would appreciate that very much thank you," I reply and I hear Jeremy huff.
"Yes, and if your three body guards want to join you as well, they can," he smiles sweetly.
