Maddie walked out of the house with a big backpack on her back and ready for anything. "Hey there Maddie!" Her dad called. "Can you go get Max?" "No need dad, I'm right here!!" Max yelled out of breath. "Great! Now we can get going." "Shotgun!!!" Max and Maddie yelled at the same time. Maddie got to the car first and sat in the shotgun seat. " Ha, beat you!! Sit in the back child." Max pouted but sat in the back anyway, because what choice did he have? When they got on the road, Max started being annoying, as usual. Would he just shut up already? "We're here we're here we're here we're here!!!!" "Can you be any less of a child Max?" Maddie asked. She just wanted to get on his nerves, and it worked. "Yes I can. Can YOU be any less of a party pooper, Maddie?"
"Stop the fighting. Let's go enjoy the woods!!" "Fiiine" they said in unison. Stupid twin minds. As Maddie got out of the car, she took one look at the woods and froze. There it stood. The last place her best friend was seen. This is a whole new nightmare. Max and their dad, Jeffrey Bezos (not THE Jeffrey Bezos of course) ran into the woods with no hesitation whatsoever. "Come on Maddie, it's so pretty!!" "Ya scaredy cat, come on!!"
Maddie took a few mini steps towards the woods and looked up in awe. It WAS pretty. The leaves were all different colors and the trees provided just enough light for a perfect photo. She took out her phone and started taking photos of the trees, the leaves, and the views that, even though she didn't want to admit it, were breathtaking. I can see why Ella would like this place. The orange, green, yellow, red, and blue trees - wait that's not right. There's no such thing as blue trees! "Hey Maddie, look at this!!" called Max.
Maddie walked over to Max and her dad and froze. She looked down in horror. There, sitting next to the biggest tree in the area, was Ella's beanie and scarf. Maddie knew it was Ella's because it had her name on it and Maddie gave those to Ella. No. No it can't be. She can't be gone, she's just lost. But then why are her things here? Did she leave them? No, she would never leave them. She loved that beanie and scarf.
Max, seeing Maddie so distressed, asked, "Maddie, are you ok?" Maddie turned around and started to cry on her brother's shoulder. Ella was Max's friend too. Max hugged Maddie and tried to comfort her, but she'd had enough. She ran deeper into the woods and collapsed when she was out of sight. She cried so much that she fell asleep, right there on the ground.
Max found Maddie asleep and Jeffrey, being the awesome father he is, built the camp around the sleeping girl. Even though he may not show it sometimes, Max cared about his sister more than anything. Well, almost everything. He loved his family and would do anything to be with them, even if it meant annoying them 24/7, which had its perks. It's very fun perks.
"You know Max," Jeffrey said a few hours later, "You're a good brother. You always care for your sister and I love that. Your mother would be so proud." "Eww dad. I only look after Maddie because I have to. You give me no choice, don't make it something it's not." "Mmmmhmmmmmm. Just because I give you no choice, riiiiiight." "Daaaaaaaaddddd!!" Max whined. He hated when his dad did that.
