Chapter 1
Enjolras walked out of the ABC café and onto the cold Paris streets. He could hear his friends inside getting themselves drunk, this is what most of them had chosen to do on the eve of battle almost trying to drown the fears he knew most of them held. The barricade plans where all laid out, the ammunition stocked, all ready for General Lamarque’s funeral where the revolution would begin. But now Enjolras was away from the hype of it all he began to think. He knew that he would probably die the very next day which was ok, that was his life ambition make France a better place for the people or die a martyr trying.
The rain began to fall, rippling the surface of the river Seine. He sat down and watched the river boats, there lights glistening in the rain. He pulled out his sketch pad from his coat pocket and made a quick sketch. He drew pictures because maybe in the future, he or if he was to fall, someone else, would look upon this sketch book and see the story of the revolution, of giving France back to the people, the peoples story that would one day have a happy ending. The rain had wet his clothes but it did not affect him. He looked at the beauty of Paris that would one day belong to the people. His mind raced the revolution was tomorrow, his adrenalin had started pumping so much preparation so much planning had gone into this but now that it was merely hours away he didn’t really know what to do.
And so Enjolras walked.
He strolled around the streets as the rain came down. Suddenly he swore he heard the voice of an angel. He ducked behind some crates as the figure approached. She was a girl just younger than him, she was unnaturally skinny, obviously a street urchin she was wearing a sleeveless dress that was tattered and torn even so she was exceptionally beautiful, then he realised, he had seen her before earlier that night when his best friend Marius was changing his revolution lyrics to express his love for a girl who he had only seen once. One cannot possibly fall in love do fast, but that love struck idiot was convinced that he couldn’t live without…what’s her name? Oh right Marius didn’t know. She had been the one to tell him she had found her…as she neared he realised she was crying and singing to herself
She sung a tail of love, it was the story of her, and she was in love with a man that was blind to her feelings. She sung it with such passion and there was such love behind the tears. It was heartbreaking to listen to.
She stopped and it seemed like the world was still.
She collapsed in a ball on the ground and sobbed. He felt he should go out, comfort her in some way but he couldn’t do that without her knowing he was watching her. As he debated what to do a man approached her from the darkness.
