‘You look away from me Mousier, Do you look at me differently now you know I am a whore?’ she asked in a sad tone

It felt as if someone had stabbed him, he took her face in her hands ‘Eponine, I know you did not choose this life. It is our choice that define us and that was not your choice. I look at you no less. You are a human being, and I lo-‘ looked at him, he could tell she knew what was coming, he stared straight into her eyes

‘Forgive me mademoiselle,' he said trying to find the courage 'but I think I’m in love with you’

She looked into his eyes for what seemed like forever, then she took his hands off her face and Enjolras’ heart sank faster than a pebble in water.

‘It’s because of Marius isn’t it’ he said without thinking, regretting it instantly by the look in her eyes. There was silence for a moment before she replied

‘walk with me, can I tell you a story?’ she whispered so he could barely hear him.

‘Of course Mademoiselle’ he replied , unsure of what was to come as they began to walk again down the cobble stone streets in no particular direction.

‘This is the story of a girl who has only ever been in love with one man her whole life’ she said wistfully, Enjolras felt a twinge of envy but then her tone saddened ‘but he never saw her that way, I mean how could he? She was a whore and he was the grandson of rich noblemen but still she hoped. He saw a girl at the market place a girl that she had known very well, A girl who had sheared her childhood with her family, who this girl’s family had made this other girl a slave for them, and the girl took part in it.’ Her eyes were filled with regret ‘She lived through a horrible childhood and then a man came and took her away and that was the last she saw of her until the day in the market place when the man she loved fell in love with her. And it broke her heart when he asked her to find her. She led the man she loved to another woman who he fell in love with, he was this girl’s only hope that I might get out of the life she was living, to find a life worth living.’

She paused, and then whispered in a voice so soft it could be blown away by the wind

‘Until one night, she was saved by a man,’ she looked up at him with confused eyes ‘and then this girl she began to think, The man she had loved had been her best friend but what if she was more in love with the idea of love, she considered it and realised all she wanted was a life that she could love and be loved and feel safe, the man she loved had fallen in love and this girl could see how precious the love between the man she loved and this other women was and she respected that even if it broke her heart. That was all she wanted and she was convinced that she would only ever be happy with…Marius’ Enjolras noted the use of his name then she did something that made Enjolras’ heart jump, she rested her hand on the side of Enjolras’ face curiously ‘but after the events of one evening she realised that she could love be loved and feel safe with someone else and maybe…just maybe she had known since she had seen him, but her heart wouldn’t admit it.

There was another pause as Enjolras locked eyes with her

And then cautiously, as if still unsure she took her hand of his cheek and put it behind his neck, Enjolras’ heart pumped it felt like butterflies where flying around his stomach as she lifted her head up. Not wanting to wait one more second, he swooped down and their lips meet. The world around Enjolras started to melt as if Eponine and he were the only to people in the world. Her lips were soft against his, he put one hand around her waist and one around her neck, pulling her closer it was almost ticklish the way she played with his hair running her tiny fingers through it. The kiss deepened and Enjolras wanted it to last forever but there was one important thing they needed. Berth.

When they broke apart he was panting slightly, he looked at her and a smile rested on her lips. his smile broadened and he pulled her into his embrace sheltering her from the cold, his heart was racing at a surly an unnatural rate nonetheless it sped up even more when she whispered to him

‘But now her heart is starting to admit’
