Connie had just finished tennis lessons, and was walking down the beachfront. On the way, she had picked up donuts for Steven, two chocolate donuts with rainbow sprinkles for him, and a glazed donut for her.
She walked up the wood steps to Steven's house, they were going to marathon the Dogcopter films together. Connie brushed back her hair from her eyes and knocked on the door to the temple. She heard loud, thumping footsteps and say a bushy, pink mane looking out from the window at her. Shortly after, the door flung open. A boy with dark curly hair held his arms open and Connie came in, returning the hug.
They pulled away, and Lion came over to her to give her a "hug" with his neck. Connie patted his mane and pulled off of him. Lion had taken a liking to her after he had found her and Steven talking on the beach after the giant space hand incident.
Steven saw the bag and gave her a questioning look. Connie smiled and gave him the bag, holding her donut in her hand. Stevens face lit up, and her took one donut and gave it to Lion for him to eat. He took it and padded off into Rose's room to eat alone. Steven took out his own donut and scarfed down a bite.He motioned to his room where the TV was set up with Dogcopter I on the screen.~
After the movies were over, the two stayed in their positions. Connie sitting on one of Steven's pillows on the floor and Steven laying on his belly on the bed.
Connie took a breath and turned to Steven, "Hey, can I ask you something?" Steven turned to look at her, "Sure Connie." Connie gulped and looked at the floor. "Why did you want to return my bracelet all that time ago?
The boy turned red. "Well, it was yours. I felt bad you had lost it." He looked back to her. "I- I had wanted to see you again" He flushed. "I- I didn't mean to say that!" Steven buried his head in the bed and groaned.
Connie turned red too and looked down again. Well, as red as an indian girl can get. "Its okay..! I'm glad you brought it to me. I- I needed a friend like you." She reached up and held his hand.
The two sat in silence, blushing as the stars through the skylight twinkled above. Maybe Steven would die tomorrow, Connie didn't know what would happen these days. But Connie forgot all about that in those moments.
