Because for whatever reason, the world and Its Gods decided to fuck him, granting his 'wish', bestowing him with Mana and Magic.
He was In the Army as a common Knight, like 90% of the Empire. And he was alright with that. He loved that kind of slow and lazy life, rather than the fast and action-packed Mage life.
...But out of nowhere, Mana busted from his body, making his Squad Leader send him to the Squad's Mage, where he was tested.
And lord and behold, he was a Legend-Rank Mage, being able to use all seven elements, being: Water, Fire, Earth, Wind, Sky, Light, and Darkness, with his highest affinity for Darkness, by two Ranks.
Seeing his affinity, the Mage sent him to the center of the Light Wing City, where he was picked by the Mage Guild and put Into the Dark Magic Legion, a newly formed Legion by the Crown Princess. Meaning, he is In the Private Crown Princess's Army, a Captain due to his high affinity for Dark Magic, the highest out of all Mages there.
