san didn't see yeosang again for the rest of the day, and to say he was happy about that was an understatement. the stunt the younger had pulled off set alight a wavering fear within him. and there was something off about everything that told him tumbling chairs were only the tip of this ever-growing iceberg. his mother had been quite shaken by the unnatural event and his father worried they'd experience the aftershock of an earthquake. all san could do was play it off as it was because he was sure any sane person wouldn't believe him if he told them it was the ghost of his dead best friend.

he spent the rest of his day the same way he did the day before: packing up clothes and disassembling his furniture.

san sat cross-legged in front of wooyoung as he took apart a small shelf while the other folded what was left of san's shirts and sweaters.

"hey youngie,"

"yes."

"we should take a break tomorrow and go hiking or something."

anything to get out of this house , he thinks to himself. but the way wooyoung's body relaxes tells him that maybe wooyoung was feeling the same odd feeling too.

wooyoung chuckled weakly, "we just started packing; it's only been two days. we can't take a day off."

"says who? the professors? they aren't the boss of us anymore youngie, we're allowed to procrastinate."

"okay then, but tomorrow. i wanna get this done as quickly as possible. the faster we get this gone, the sooner we can leave." wooyoung reasoned with a wavering voice, an unexplained urgency laced with his words.

one that san didn't notice.

they walked along the creek's edge, fingers twined, hands swinging as the two hummed with content.

"we should go swimming," wooyoung suggested, his eyes trained in the crystal blue lake not too far ahead. "maybe we can even find some cute fish while we're at it no?" he hummed out.

san nodded, tightening his grip on wooyoung's hand.

for some reason, he didn't fear the lake like he normally did. his bones didn't ache with the thought of swimming in the same deadly waters that took his friend. for some twisted reason, the thought excited him. swimming in those tempting waters.

"yeah, sure."

they made their way to the lake's little beach. each taking their turn of removing their jackets and shirts. san quickly chucked his things onto the sand and ran into the water. it was surprisingly warm and welcoming, and he couldn't help but laugh and smile and splash around.

"hurry up woo!"

"yeah, yeah hold on," the younger chuckled, "i'm not going in with my socks on."

san turned his back to wooyoung and swam further in. he kicked and flipped, so lost in his childlike fun that he hadn't noticed the other boy was no longer by the shore.

after what felt like too long for taking off socks, san turned around.

wooyoung was gone.

"youngie?" he mumbled. his body bobbing up and down with the waves, blurred eyes searching for any signs of his boyfriend.

"youngie?" he called again, this time louder.

he swam back towards the shore. he looked everywhere. their pile of clothes were gone. even their footprints that lead up to that point had vanished beneath the sand.
