"WHAT SHOULD I BRING?" cassie asks gwen as she begins to pack to spend the weekend with mckay at his college. cassie smacks her gum aggressively, her hip jutted to the left, and her head tilted to the right as she stares at her closet.
" i dunno, like cute dresses." Gwen suggests.
" ugh," cassie groans, " you're no help." she flops on the bed next to gwen. to be honest, gwen wasn't paying attention. cassie had a habit of only talking about herself. and not even like interesting things, so gwen had learned to just ignore her. Gwen is laying on Cassie's bed, painting her nails, and a green face mask on her pale skin. While Cassie rambles about mckay, gwen can't stop thinking about last night with Elijah. he gives her that butterfly feeling in her stomach that she's never felt before, but part of her knows it's wrong. pushing the thought aside, gwen watches cassie with careful eyes.
" are you going to nates party tonight?"
" no mckay's picking me up tonight, remember?"
" oh yeah, sorry i forgot." gwen calls over to lexi, cassies sister, " lexi, what should cassie bring to hang out with mckay?" Lexi doesn't even bother to look up from her laptop, as she types away rapidly.
" don't know and don't care," lexi says.
" you guys are no help" cassie claims, letting out a groan. she throws back her head dramatically and defeated. "you're supposed to be my best friend gwen, help meeeee," she whines, digging through her closet.
"hey" gwen says irritated, " i'm helping."
"whatever i'll figure it out. he's gonna be here soon though, so like you've gotta go gwen."
" i know cass. lexi, are you going to nate party?"
" no, just gonna stay home and watch love island with my mom. if you want me to come, i'll go gwen." Lexi always liked gwen, she was her favorite of Cassie's friends. gwen and Lexi were the same age, and although gwen would never say this she thought Lexi was much nicer, and they had a lot in common.
" no no. don't worry about it. i don't think i'm gonna go either." gwen waves her hand dismissively. because of how close cassie and gwen are, gwen and lexi have also become very close. in fact lexi is someone gwen would prefer to hangout with, but she can't just drop cassie because she's self centered and has surface level passions.
ping! gwens phone lights up. it's elijah. hey gwen, got a hotel for the weekend, want to stay with? attached is an awkward selfie of him in the hotel room. he's smiling in the photo, a real smile, with his eyes lit up and his deep dimples exuding in his smile. gwen finds herself smiling and blushing at the text.
" hello, gwen. gwen. are you even listening to my story." cassie says, sitting down at her vanity and touching up her makeup.
"yes i'm listening. my mom just texted me thats all." of course, i'd love to. send me the adress. be there by 6. gwen types disscretly.
"gwen why are you smiling so much, wasn't it just your mom texting you?" cassie retorts
"yeah, she just told me something funny, anyway continue with your story cass."
"okay, so mckay is the absolute sweetest, he's kind and funny, and obvi really hot. ugh, i can't wait to see him!"
"that's great cassie. listen i gotta go, my mom is really pissed at me."
"lame. whatever, i need to finish packing anyway. love you g, see you on monday."
"bye cass, bye lexi, love you guys," gwen replies, standing up from cassie's bed. walking through the very familiar howard household, gwen picks up her bike that was resting against a tree in the front yard. one of the reasons cassie and gwen are so close, is due to the two living merely minutes away from each other. popping in her earbuds gwen begins the ride to her house. she's already thinking of the clothes she'll pack to see elijah this weekend.
