You help your family move the rest of your boxes into the house. You are the eldest at 22 years old. You see your sister wave her hand so you look at her.
"where is your hearing aids? mama is talking to you." she signs.
you sigh and take it out your pocket and put it on. You take a second to get use to all the sounds around you. You usually get a bit overwhelmed when you first put it on.
"Ugh I hate putting this on Mama" you say looking at your mom.
"I know I'm sorry Hijo. You can't sign with those boxes in your hands. " your mom apologizes and kiss your cheek
You just nod and put things away. You are barefoot since you like to feel as much vibrations as you can. You see your little brother Mateo run up to you, he's 8. you're the oldest of 3. your sister Jessica is 14.
"up" he signs to you.
You smile since he likes to sign to you since he knows you prefer it.
"It's okay Bud we can talk. I got my ears on. " you say and pick him up.
Your brother calls your hearing aid your ears.
"Mama said we are going to see a friend of hers. " he tells you.
"gracias Mateo. " you said
you tickle him and he has a laughing fit. you smile and his laugh is one of the things you actually enjoy hearing. you put him down and ruffle his hair.
"boys! come on and (y/n) put something in your feet please." your mother says.
You frown but put on some slides. You give your brother a piggy back ride as you guys go to a huge house. before you can ask anything a woman runs out
"Maria!" she says and hugs your mom
they hug and giggle like teen girls.
"oh my god Pepa I missed you. Last time I saw you was your wedding." your mom say
"oh my.. is this your kids?" she ask looking at you are your siblings.
"Si. my oldest son (y/n), my daughter Jessica and my little angel Mateo. " she introduces you all
"Hola Señora. " you say.
"so polite. " Pepa says to your mom smiling
you hear shouting.
"mama!" A young boy comes out and runs to Pepa.
You put Mateo down seeing the kid and feel like he will have a friend.
"what happen Antonio?" she ask her son.
"Camilo is cheating in hide in seek. he keeps changing!" he complains.
"hola im Mateo. I like hide and seek. " your social brother says to him
"you do? Do you like Animals? i have a bunch in my room. "
Your brother nods and they run off. you chuckle. soon you all go inside but it's loud as a lot seems to be going on.
"sorry we are preparing for a party." Pepa says.
you end up wandering outside and into the back. you sigh and take out your hearing aid. silence and it's bliss.
"finally silence. " you mumble
You don't notice Dolores and camilo come out. she's arguing with him about him keep turning into Mariano after they broke up a few weeks ago.
"hey who's that? hey Amigo!! " Camilo says
He sees you don't turn. he walks over and taps you. You jump and turn.
"who are you?" he ask.
thankfully you can read lips. You put your hearing aid in since sometimes you don't know how loud you are being.
"oh I'm (y/n) , I'm here with my mother Maria she's visiting her friend Pepa. " you say
"hey that's my mom. what's that thing you got on ?" Camilo ask
"oh uh it's a hearing aid... i'm deaf. " you explain
"Camilo stop asking so many personal questions. " Dolores say and grabs her brother by the arm.
"But i think he's pretty cool!" Camilo whines then he smirks.
he turns into you and you are now so confused
"how? what?" you are so confused
Camilo turns back into himself and laughs. he then explains all about the gift his family has. You nod and listen to him interested. You don't notice Dolores just observing you. Soon your sister come out with a girl with glasses.
"mom is looking for you. we are about to go. " she signs.
"okay thank you. I'm coming. " you sign back.
"woah what's the hand movements?" Camilo ask interested.
"sign language Milo. " Mirabel tells him.
you thank Camilo for the chat and go to your sister. Dolores watches you with such interest and Mirabel and your sister notice. they look at each other knowing. you go to the front with your sister.
"mama can't i please take it off now?" you ask
she nods and you take off your hearing aid. you head home and go to your room. Your room is sound proof so it's comfortable even with hearing aids. Especially since sometimes you like to play music so your mom thought soundproof was best.
