The News got around Hogwarts fast. The golden trio had disbanded and none of them were on speaking terms. Harry heard and saw all of the gossiping people as they whispered and pointed at him, Ron, or Hermione. This really was stupid. Harry still had Ron and even then, it was to make Dumbledore think that Ron still wasn't on his side.
Someone overheard the fight and spread the rumor around.
