Omell Grayve

"What do you think of Omell?" David asks me while we walk to our lunch table.

"He's all right," I sigh, "he seems a bit egotistic."

"He is. It's because of his encounter with that goblin."

"It's not even that impressive," I scoff, a little jealous of all his attention.

"I could barely talk at age four," David says, "let alone kill a goblin."

"Hey guys!" Lucia says as she, Anna and Ezmerelda catch up from behind us.

"Where have you been?" I ask while turning around and walking backwards.

"We had to get Ezmerelda," Anna grins.

"Sorry for being the cause of your disappearance," Ezmerelda laughs.

I turn back around as we approach our dark oak table and sit down.

After our shepherd's pie appears on our plates, a fourth-year boy sits across from me, next to Ezmerelda.

"I know you two," he says.

I look up to find a flattering Omell with short brown hair smiling brightly at me.

"Chaser and keeper," Omell says while pointing at David and me.

"Hi Omell!" David greets him excitedly.

David is a huge fan of him for some reason. Sure, he may be a brilliant wizard. A brilliant muggle-born wizard. But, that's no reason to fan over him.

"David King, right?" Omell asks to be sure.

"Yes!" David's voice cracks at his excitement.

Omell laughs at him, making David's cheeks turn a bright shade of pink.

"And you," Omell grins. "You're new on the team this year, aren't you?"

"Yeah," I answer. "David made me try out."

"Well I'm glad he did," he smiles. "You're an excellent chaser."

    "I don't understand," I say. "I only scored once."

"That doesn't matter," Omell says reassuringly. "You have great control of your broom and you're bloody fast."

"Thank you," I begin to blush. "Can't wait to see you play."

"You will see lots of me," he winks before turning to stand but stops when he meets his eyes with Ezmerelda.

    "Ezmerelda Rossina?"

Ezmerelda slowly turns her head towards him, as if she didn't want to talk to him.

"The most spectacular chaser I've ever met?" He continues.

"Hi Omell," she greets with annoyance in her tone.

"I haven't heard from you since my second year!" Omell says excitedly.

"That's because I've been avoiding you," Ezmerelda does not make eye contact.

Omell laughs and turns to David, Lucia and I while pointing at Ezmerelda with his thumb.

"I had the biggest crush on her in first and second year."

    "Grayve," Anna says sternly. "Leave."

"All right, all right," he says while raising his hands in surrender and walking away.

"I hate him," Ezmerelda says angrily once Omell is out of view.

"How can you hate the Omell Grayve?" David asks.

Ezmerelda looks at him with sorrow in her eyes.

"He would follow me around everywhere," Ezmerelda begins. "He would wait for me             outside every classroom, and always be waiting at my dining table. He would even sneak into the girls' change room while I was getting ready for quidditch."

"He's a creep," Lucia comments. "I knew it."

"You didn't like him?" David asks.

"Of course not," Ezmerelda says. "He's two years younger than me, and his attitude is infuriating. I was so happy to move to senior quidditch in my fifth year. Made it easier to stay away from him."

"I'm so sorry about that," I say compassionately. "I had a bad experience with a boy too."

"Haven't we all?" Anna adds sarcastically.

"Glad I can somewhat relate with you Audrey," Ezmerelda says.

"I'm glad you mentioned this," I say. "Now I know to keep an eye on him."

    "You're welcome," Ezmerelda chuckles.

Why are there so many annoying and egotistic boys at this school? Why can't they be more like Daniel and David? They're very nice, always there for me.

It sounds like Adrian has backed off from Daniel over the summer. He hasn't heard from him at all. I think this is a good thing. Unless he has something else planned. I suppose I'm just a bit paranoid after the war, that's all. I'm sure his damage is done.
