I had gained my citizenship outside the Zone, but honestly, I didn't want to live outside. I knew the hate and discrimination we would get being seen out there, but that didn't mean I didn't want my own place. I applied for a place big enough for the four of us. It went in my favour and we were able to move in right away. My grandparents were sad to see us go but I knew they needed their space back. They offered to look after Lilliana anytime. Ava and Dimitri were thrilled to get their own rooms. I knew they were sick of each other.
Dimitri's training was going well. Apparently he was doing well as a beginner. Ava went back and forth to the labs. It appears that they went to experimenting on her again. It started off with hand to hand combat in titan form. She said nothing bad was going on but deep down I knew she was lying.
The day finally came where I was finally going to the institution of the Artificial Titans. Ava already gave them the heads up of my arrival but I was still nervous. I know Ava said that they were okay with me being there but I know some of them are still going to be upset with what happened at Shiganshina.
Unfortunately, I was met up with Frank who was going to give me a tour of the facility. Thankfully, there were two other staff members who accompanied us so I wasn't stuck alone with him.
Seeing him once again after what Ava told me about him made me hate him even more. I knew he was a horrible person but hearing it from someone who has had to deal with him just makes it even worse. He takes advantage of anyone he wants and gets away with it with no consequences. Marlyian scum. It's people like him that deserve to suffer.
We entered the facility and all of the sudden I felt a heavy weight on my chest. It feels like I've just had my breath taken away. I was able to hide the fact that I was uncomfortable.
"This is the courtyard where they are free to do whatever, down the hallway are the sleeping quarters. Out the back is where physical training takes place. Once a month we run a number of tests to make sure they are still in control of their abilities. We do injections to enhance their abilities and so far we have only had a few failures." Frank explained.
I looked down and I saw so many people. I'd say there were at least two hundred people. This facility is huge. I noticed Ava in the crowd and she noticed me. She looked at me with concern but I tried to give her a reassuring smile.
"Since you are a doctor, I expect you to assist with any injuries they sustain in training."
"But won't they just heal on their own?" I wondered.
"Not always."
"Sometimes they'll need help with their mental state. Some of them can't always activate or control when they transform so if they get hurt in any way, they won't heal like they should." One of the other doctors explained.
"How often do they lose control?"
"It used to happen a lot but now rarely."
"Ever since we started putting the failures on display, it's motivated them to stay in line." Frank snickered.
"What do you mean putting them on display?" I questioned.
"You'll see soon enough." He grinned at me.
I have a bad feeling about that.
We continued with the tour when finally it was over and Frank and the others finally left. Now I was standing in front of a crowd of people like me.
"Hello everyone, my name is (y/n) Zaki. I'm sure Ava has told you about me. I can understand if some of you don't want to trust me and I don't blame you. However, once Ava explained to me what was going on, I couldn't stand by and allow it to continue." I explained.
