(This has probably been done already but idc we were robbed of wholesome Mabel and Ford moments)

Mabel made sure to be quiet as she walked down the stairs, descending from the attic floor where she was supposed to be sleeping. It was late, but she found herself unable to stay in bed. No one could blame her. It was hard to fall asleep after the emotional rollercoaster she went through that day; meeting a unicorn, praising the unicorn, getting called a "bad person", trying to make up for her mistakes, realizing unicorns were jerks, fighting the unicorns for their hair, getting called a good person by her Great Uncle Ford, and ultimately protecting the Mystery Shack and her family.

Admittedly, it was relieving to be called a good person, and by Ford of all people. Sometimes Mabel didn't always feel that close to him. At first it was because her Grunkle Stan told her and her brother to stay away from him because he was a "dangerous know-it-all". But because of Stan's recent change-of-heart, she could bond with him all she wanted! Unfortunately, that was never the case. Ford had taken a liking to Dipper, and thus spent all his free time with him, playing nerdy board games and studying the facts of the universe or whatever.

Don't get her wrong, Mabel was glad they were getting along. She was happy that Dipper was getting to bond with his hero—the author of the journals, and was also happy that he had someone else to bug about his endless conspiracies. But she also wished she could get to know Ford better. She wasn't exactly a brainiac like him, but surely there was something they had in common.

She managed to make it down the stairs without making the steps creak and disturb anyone else's slumber. She wasn't sure why, but right now she was craving nighttime snacks and late night television shows. So she made her way into the kitchen, grabbing a couple bags of chips and whatever other unhealthy food she could find, before walking back toward the living room.

To her surprise, she found she wasn't the only one awake. Currently sitting at the table was Ford, writing something in the journal that was given back to him. Whatever he was writing, he didn't stop, not even as Mabel entered the room and set her snacks down on the recliner chair.

She hesitated to do anything to get his attention, and she didn't know why. No, she wasn't expecting him to be there, but it wasn't like he couldn't know she was awake and planning to watch tv. He was going to find out soon, anyway, so she might as well make herself present.

"Hey, Grunkle Ford." She said, walking over to the table to approach him.

Ford glanced over at her. Thankfully, she hadn't startled him. In fact, he was barely fazed by seeing someone walk up to him unexpectedly. "Hey. I thought you'd be in bed by now."

"I couldn't sleep." She shrugged, "I thought I'd stay up a little longer and binge-watch some trashy reality shows. Wanna join me?"

Her uncle merely shook his head, re-focusing his attention back to his journal. "No, thank you, though."

Mabel's smile faltered slightly, but he didn't notice. So maybe reality shows weren't his thing..so what? There were plenty of other things they could do, right? She would just have to try harder. "Okay..well, we could do something else! Ooh, we could prank call my parents saying it's the government and they owe millions of dollars! It'd be great 'cause they won't recognize your voice!"

Sadly, he didn't seem to eager about that idea either. "I'm a little busy right now, Mabel." He said, barely even looking at her. "Maybe you can go see if Stan wants to do that."

Now Mabel's smile completely disappeared, turning into a small frown. She should've known he wouldn't be up for that. Stan was more of the prankster between the two of them.
