Kanao

Close encounter...

Quite some time has passed since I've adjusted to the new dorm, about a week or two. I'm now on my way to the headmasters office to meet the headmaster for something business related, I turn the corner on the left quickly and come to a stop when I noticed a little girl had bumped into me. The sudden impact caused her to fall backward on her bum and land on the ground.

"Ara ara~ are you alright? I'm sorry little one," I say as I kneel and offer my hand.

She rubs her head a little and looks up at me with dazed eyes, then she takes my hand and jumps to her feet.

"Are you the vampire who came to cross academy?" She asks with curious but kind and innocent eyes.

"I am, I heard you and Lord Kaname were close? Are you and him friends?" I ask with a gentle smile.

"Yea! Lord Kaname is my best friend!" She says with excitement and joy sewn into her joyful expression.

"I'm glad, y'know, he seems quite fond of you." I say.

"Really?" She asks with a hopeful smile and glimmering eyes, and a hint of pink on her cheeks.

"Really. And I've got some stuff to do, I'll talk to you later, ok?" I say and stand up slowly.

"Ok! And next time, I'll introduce you to Zero!" She says.

"Alright, see you later then." I say and slightly smile over to her and she hurries down the hall and then out of view.

   I walk a little ways down the hall and I stand quietly in front of the headmasters door. I grab the handle of the door and pull it open, I take a step inside and come face to face with the headmaster whom joyfully offers me cookies and welcomes me in. Awhile later, after we talk and discuss what we needed to, I exit the room and go to close the door behind me.

"Oh! And before I forget! Kanao, would you be so kind as to join me and my beautiful daughter and Zero for dinner this evening?" The headmaster asks.

"I was actually planning on getting some work done and some sleep in today." I reply as I turn back.

"Are you sure you can't come for dinner? Kaname was going to join us, and I'm sure Yuki and Zero would love it if you came as well! Even if for a little bit." The headmaster urges.

"*sigh*...Well, I suppose it couldn't hurt... But I will have to make adjustments in my work schedule." I say.

(Right now, Kanao is as tall as the headmasters shoulders and Kaname is almost the same height as the headmaster.)

"Ooh! I can't wait to tell them about the good news! I'll see you tonight!" He says and dances back into his room and lets the door close by itself behind him.

I sigh, and stand at the door for a little while. Contemplating my decision. Before I decide to head back down the hallway and think about taking a walk. I turn away from the door and begin to walk away when I hear a familiar voice coming from down the hallway and heading my way. My curiosity gets the best of me and I do my best to quietly sneak forward and peek around the corner.

I blink a few times. Surprised but confused.

"Kaname?..." I mumble, seemingly dumbfounded.

{What's he doing here? Does he have business with the head master that I was unaware of? Then I made it awkward... and if I come out now... He'll probably think I was spying on him!...}

I use my hand and slap my forehead with it, letting my head rest on my hand with a mixed expression on my face and feeling dumb.

{Should I go back inside the headmasters office?... Should I walk out after sneaking around and hope he doesn't notice me?... Oh, crap!}

I duck my head and pull away from the ledge, leaning against the wall with my fist clench.

"Who's there?" Kaname demands with a calm but seemingly irritated voice.

{I'm screwed. He knows I'm here!... I would've had a chance before, but now that he called me out on it I'm as good as caught! I'm such a dunce!...}

I take a slow deep breath in and then slowly let it out.

{Maybe I can use my powers to my advantage! I could create some sort of illusion to act like I was busy and not actually spying on him! Even though it was entirely unintentional, it's going to seem that way when I try to explain myself which would just make it even more suspicious... What should I use...?}

After a few moments of thinking, I hear footsteps slowly coming toward my way. Their only slow and calm because he knows that whoever is over here is for the moment cornered and won't escape a 'pureblood'. But I've got something up my sleeve to.

{I could create an illusion of me talking to the headmaster? No... if he talks to the headmaster or walks into his office and notices it's to quick of timing and would get more suspicious, but if I teleported out of here, then it would also be suspicious because he saw me and sensed me. So him sensing my presence alone doomed me... it may not seem like a big deal, but if I'm caught "spying" they'll think I'm a pervert and rumens will start spreading...}

{this must be a long hallway, I would've expected to have been caught already...}

I hear another step only a foot away from the ledge and panic.

{screw it!}

I teleport back to my room and sit at my desk curled in a ball in my chair, with pink cheeks from embarrassment and my adrenaline.

{I just hope he plays dumb or pretends he didn't see anything... There's no way I wasn't caught, that was just a minutes escape... And I just hope I wasn't sloppy, leaving anything behind for evidence against me...}

I rest my forehead on my knees and curse myself quietly when someone knocks on my door.

"Ms. Hio? May I come in?" Someone from the other side of my door calls.
