Summary:

Kelly hurt his shoulder on shift and has to be off for a few weeks, and he hates it. Matt decides that he should be an excellent at-home nurse for him as his husband.

Kelly was groaning in pain on the floor. He turned his head looked around his Squad members but no Matt. He remembered that Matt wasn't on this call and groaned louder, not having his husband with him.

"Lieutenant, are you okay?" Cruz asked worriedly.

"Fine just shoulder and lungs," Kelly grunted just as paramedics from another house came over to help Kelly. They put a neck brace around his Kelly despite Kelly's constant, 'I'm fine.' They transferred him onto the stretcher and brought him into the ambulance.

"I'm calling Casey," Cruz yelled before the doors closed. Kelly only nodded before resting his head the best he could on the bed, letting the pain in his body overtake him. He had closed his eyes and lost consciousness from the painkillers being pushed into him.

Kelly woke up to the feeling of someone combing his hair softly, and he smiled softly with his eyes closed.

"Eh, he wakes," Matt's voice rings through Kelly's ear, and he snaps his eyes open to find Matt still in his turnout gear, smiling down at Kelly. "Hi baby, how do you feel?"

"Sore," Kelly said and then noticed all the pain his body was feeling.

"Well, you do have a concussion, broken shoulder, and broken collarbone," Matt said with his 'what the fuck were you thinking face.'

"Well, either this or get burned, which would you have preferred?" Kelly asked, but he knew the answer and prepared himself.

"For my idiot of a husband not to run into a burning building when the smoke is fucking black, and the Captain on scene told everyone to come out. What the heck, Kels? You could've died. This," Matt said, waving to Kelly's injuries. "Is a miracle. You got lucky, Severide."

"I know, but Matt, one of those children were in a wheelchair, and I thought I had enough time to get her," Kelly argued, and Matt huffed out in annoyance.

"If you weren't concussed, I would smack you upside the head right now for not using your brain before you tell your limbs to move," Matt said, defeated and annoyed.

"I'm sorry, I'll be more careful," Kelly said, and Matt sighed.

"You better," Matt said sternly before leaning forward and placing a gentle kiss on Kelly's lips. "I hate coming off of a call and seeing my phone only to find out you are in the hospital."

"I'm sorry," Kelly said and reached his good arm to pull Matt down for another kiss. "You came here straight from the call?"

"Yeah, Boden pulled me out, so you are stuck with me," Matt said before placing another kiss and straightening up. "I'll tell Manning you're awake." Matt walked out of the room and to the nurse's area and told them that Kelly was awake before walking back into the room. He pulled out his phone and texted the group chat to let them know Kelly was awake.

Manning came in a few minutes later, did a complete check over him, and told him that if he was okay by tomorrow morning, he was good to go. Matt then took off his turnout coat and laid it on the chair before sitting on the edge of the bed by Kelly's legs.
