Venable stood there in confusion, blinking for a couple of heartbeats. She closed her mouth, internally yelling at herself. "So, if this is what you are saying, if it is true..." Venable tried to process the reveal, her gaze shifting from different directions. "Okay. I think I understand." Venable mumbled, her mind a flurry. She felt like a hare running in circles during a blizzard, surrounded and blinded with confusion.
She walked away from Ms. Mead, excusing herself to think. Walking by, she caught a glimpse of you. She turned back to spy in the room, eyes locked on you. Stalking in the shadows, moving her cane with expert stealth to avoid announcing her arrival. You sat in one spot, writing with a fierce passion. She was right behind you now, awkwardness prickling at her skin. Just say hi. Your head turned slightly, Venable realizing she casted a shadow over you. "Hello, Ms. Venable." You spoke so quietly, but so casually. "Hello." Her heels clicked like hooves on the stone floor, shifting uncomfortably as awkward heat radiated from her. "Why are you alone here?" Venable got to speaking, her tone soft. "I write best when alone. What brought you here?" Venable finally caught your eye, swallowing her words. "I wanted to know what you were up to. You're my most elusive guest." She explained quietly.
After a few moments of quiet mumbling to each other, Venable left with some valuable information. You can pick locks and you have the skill to communicate from far distances.
The day continued as usual, but Venable found herself drawn to spy on you. The click of her heels and cane were brought to a stealthy silence, her piercing eyes locked on you again. There you stood, staring at a blank space on the library wall. She stared at you a little longer, finally taking a deep breath to speak. "You know, I have all sorts of paints in a supply closet. It'd be nice to see some color on these walls." Venable chirped, a small smile of amusement drawn on her lips as you jumped from her sudden announcement. You turned to face her, something tugging at Venable's heart as you glanced up at her. Hope, contentment. "Thank you."
Venable left as you went to get the paint, busying herself before supper. She oversaw everything, making sure the cubes were properly plated. When it got to your platter, Venable noticed that Ms Mead was heating the gelatinous cube. The cube was melted to a soup, Venable's eyes widening at the idea. Surely the cubes would be more desirable if they were a soup.
Coming into the dining room, supper was served. Everyone ate quietly, but only you gave thanks to Ms Mead and Venable. She smiled softly at the respect, her eyes fixating on something immediately.
Coco was quietly talking to you, but Venable didn't like the way she looked at you. Her grip on her cane tightened, noticing your smile. So you can smile like that. Something prickled in Venable, something bitter. Her knuckles turned white as she nearly broke the handle of her cane with a feeling she never expected to experience. Nobody glanced up at Venable as she held in this confusing emotion. Her cane nearly cracked under her grip, finally understanding what she was feeling. Your smile to Coco, your general kindness. I want you to smile at me like that. She held back every bitter remark that wanted to explode from her. It was now understood. The burning in her stomach and ache in her heart, jealousy had found it's way in her.
Venable ground her teeth together in silence as jealousy burned like a hole in the universe, syphoning all the information she took in within this single momet. I... I am in love with you.
