Dietrich huffed, harshly turning a corner.
Two employees tailed four feet behind him, desperate to catch him. "Louis, call security!" The male, Louis, merely furrowed his sweaty brows. "I can't, Niall. He's getting away!"
Norman abruptly jumped into a room, and disguised himself behind the entrance. The clueless doctors hesitantly stepped foot into the bare quarters.
A sickly boy laid near a dusty window. He let out a throaty cough, distracting the physicians. Dietrich took advantage of their diversion, injecting Louis with midalozam.
Niall had enough time to glance over at his partner in confusion, before being given the same treatment.
"Pesky doctors." The masked man scoffed.
Norman casually treaded over the sedated clinicians, unaware of the greatly surprised girl taking in the situation happening.
Ashton, the male locked in a coma, was carelessly strapped onto Dietrich's back. The female child hid near the doorway, rigid from fear. Readily, the abductor leapt out the bleak window, with Ashton in tow.
Naomi, the young curly haired lass, gaped. "Did.. Did that really just happen?"
She turned, and headed for the exit, leaving the medical officials lying crumpled on the floor. Her mind rippled with thoughts, unable to decide on how to handle what she'd witnessed.
"I'll ask the others." Naomi murmured softly to herself. "They'll know what to do, obviously." Concluding her walk, the church peaked above her.
Sneaking inside subtly, the girl breezed through the back door frame. Taking a brief left, the dreary hallway awaited her, and so did Anla.
"Oh shit- Anla, um, what are you doing out here?"
Amused, the latter crossed their arms. "I should be asking you the same. You really thought I wouldn't notice?" They added for emphasis, "You have loud feet."
Scratching her neck shyly, Naomi just looked at the ground. "Eh, I wanted to visit Ashton."
Anla stared at her, clearly expecting more. " And what else? You look as if you've seen a ghost." They wanted answers, nosy but efficient.
" So, this is gonna sound a little crazy, er, just try to believe me okay?" Naomi paused, " Well, the others should know too. Go wake them, arm rest." Anla glared, sticking their tongue. Together, the children headed towards a bed.
Lazily, they both shook Haythem awake, who was sporting a unicorn sleeping mask.
"Ugh, five more minutes." Anla chuckled at this, a devious idea forming inside their brain. "Naomi, get the sharpie," they whispered lowly. " This is payback for my nails."
True enough, Haythem had painted their nails, and shamelessly wrote 'sussy balls' on the claws. Anla swore they were going to murder him.
The young female retrieved the black marker swiftly, placing it in the orphans hand.
"Thanks." Just like that, obscene words, and drawings were placed onto the unsuspecting male. "Serves him right. We can wake him up later, let's get Ruby."
The next victim of awakening was more compliant. Her twin, Jade, arose to the noise of waking others up. Ayla was found hiding under a blanket, reading a cheap thriller book.
"Wake up," they dragged their words, attempting to annoy the boy alive. Haythem wearily roused, not looking too bright. "What could you possibly want at this hour?"
Silently, they grabbed his arm and jerked him forward to a group circle.
"So guys, um, sorry for bothering you all so late?" Naomi began, taking a deep breath. " To start with, I was visiting Ashton. Then, and this is going to sound insane, a evil guy stole him!"
The group stared at her dumbfounded, a chorus of questions erupted.
"You're joking, right?"
"Who would steal my brother?"
"Nice story, Naomi."
She sighed, expecting this reaction. "I know, its crazy, but I am serious. Just wait until morning when he's announced missing."
Ayla let a small look of panic cross their abnormally calm face. "I- I don't want to think about this right now. Why don't we play a game instead?" The cluster of orphans agreed, spooked by Naomi's adventure.
"I'll go first, Jade, truth or dare?" Ayla questioned, sounding collected. "Truth. I know how absurd your dares are."
"Do fish get thirsty for water?" The black-haired girl tapped her chin thoughtfully. "What a bizarre question. I say no, they obviously absorb water through their eyes."
Jade continued, " Haythem, truth or dare?"
The male in question took a moment to think. " Um, dare." The mischievous girl chuckled at this, already plotting an extravagant dare. " I dare you to-" Her eyes fell on Dietrich, lingering in the hallway.
"Kids. Its two in the morning. Why are you all so awake?" He sounded angry, unusual to his happy persona.
"We were just going to bed. Um, we thought we heard a creepy sound?" Anla attempted to cover for them, even though their statement fell on dear ears.
" Get to bed. We have early prayers tomorrow. I don't want any excuses." Getting a good look at Haythem, he added, " And someone needs to help Haythem with his face."
The children quickly separated to their individual beds, except the twins.
Sneaking outside, Jade pulled Ruby into the garden roughly. "What is this?" The accused girl's eyes widened in horror. "Where- How did you get that?"
The older twin, Jade, scornfully looked at her. " Under your bed isn't exactly a top notch hiding spot." Mockingly, she started to read the letter out loud-
" Oh Nicole,
The way your eyes glisten under the moonlight sends butterflies to my stomach. I know you are a town over, we could never be together. But, I can still admire you from afar. Every day, I long for you a little more. My dreams are filled with-"
"You can stop now!" Ruby was tearful, and incredibly embarrassed. " What's your point? You wouldn't mention this unless you wanted something."
Letting out a sinister giggle, Jade threw a wad of cash at her. " Just a small snack from the grocery store."
The younger twin miserably took the money, and walked away feeling exposed.
"What am I going to do now?"
