love. a word. one word.
yet, this one word, had so much meaning behind it. caleb leblanc never knew that he would figure this word out with his best friend.
in fact, caleb thought he had this word with another one. not sydney herz.
the boy looked at the blonde girl, on the screen of his phone. her hair was in a messy ponytail, and she was wearing something comfortable - but still, caleb noticed her beauty.
she was laughing at her brother luke. sydney's twin was also caleb's best friend. they were always such an important part of his life, and he hoped that it'd stay that way forever. even if they were miles away.
"luke, you can't do that," sydney laughed into the sleeve of her yellow sweatshirt. seeing her smile, made caleb smile.
"what is he doing now?" caleb said - letting out a small laugh.
sydney looked to her phone at caleb, and gave him a quick smile before flipping her camera around to show luke - who was putting ketchup and broccoli in a blender.
"wait," luke said, wide-eyed, "i need to get the macaroni!" luke made his way to the pantry, almost slipping during this process - causing both sydney and caleb to laugh hysterically.
"is that caleb?" luke said - his face hidden from the pantry door.
"yes," sydney answered - with a sweet tone in her voice.
luke peaked his head behind the pantry door, "hi," he said, giggling before he grabbed the macaroni and shut the pantry door.
"hello," caleb said - saying the o for an extra couple of seconds.
luke walked over to the blender, and put the macaroni in the blender. he set the cover on it, and hit the blend button - sydney and caleb jumped.
they both covered their ears - even though sydney was the only one who really needed to, since caleb could just turn his volume down.
"that's really loud," caleb said.
"i know!" she replied - flipping the camera towards her and running to another room in her house.
she sat down in a corner, and looked at caleb, now through the screen of her phone.
"hi," she said - grinning.
"hi," caleb said back - smiling as well.
"luke is a great chef," she joked - brushing a curl behind her ear.
"yes, i can tell," caleb laughed, "really wish i was there to taste one of his gourmet meals." caleb sat a stool at his kitchen island.
sydney was quiet for a moment, "i really wish you were here."
caleb pursed his lips, then sighed, "me too."
it had been 8 months since they had last seen each other. the night when caleb and sydney dressed formally to go to a fancy party that they hid during.
"i don't want to get too sad," sydney laughed, "how's la?" she said, changing the topic. she knew that she'd cry if she let herself get upset over the fact that he was miles away.
"good." caleb said, "i actually am almost done with season 3 of chicken girls." he mentioned. it was kind of ironic that all three leblancs played siblings on chicken girls. rhyme, harmony, and lyric.
"that's great!" the blonde smiled, "i can't wait to see it." sydney was very supportive over caleb doing singing and acting.
caleb was excited that she was excited - but there was one thing that he hadn't told her.
"yeah, actually about that," caleb began to say - but soon got interrupted by his sister walking down the stairs - noticing him facetiming syd.
"sydney!" she squealed, running over to caleb and his phone.
sydney grinned, "hi!" she said - smiling.
jules snatched caleb's phone out of his hand, and put her face up close to it, "hello," she said.
"hello." sydney said - doing the same thing. they both laughed.
jules handed caleb's phone back, "miss you syd!" she shouted, grabbing a granola bar and walking back up the stairs.
"miss you too!" sydney said back.
"what were you gonna tell me?" she asked caleb - causing him to start to feel nervous.
"oh, it's nothing," he lied. he wanted to tell her, but part of him was avoiding it. he didn't know why though.
"okay, well i gotta go," she told the brunette - looking over at something else, then at caleb.
"okay, bye," caleb smiled.
"bye, love you," syd said - smiling too.
"love you too." caleb said - causing his face to feel warm, but he ignored it. he knew that she meant it in a platonic way.
sydney smirked at him, before hanging up the phone. after she hung up, caleb's homescreen appeared. it was a picture of him and syd the last time they had seen each other.
"love you too," jules mimicked - standing up at the loft - her hands gripped on the railing of the stairs, hayley stood next to her laughing.
caleb looked up at them with his jaw dropped. "what?" he said - trying to hide a grin.
"we're just talking about how you love you're girlfriend," she teased. hayley made kissing noises to make the fifteen year old blush more.
"oh really?" caleb said, as he got up out of his stool. he grabbed a pillow from the couch, and began running up the stairs, "i'm gonna get you!"
the 12 year old, and eight year old giggled and screamed - as they ran over to jules' bed to grab random pillows to fight back.
the three siblings began to have a pillow fight - they weren't hitting hard, but caleb didn't want to admit that there was something special about his feelings towards his best friend.
"she's not my girlfriend," caleb added.
"sure, she's not," hayley said - sarcastically.
"our eight year old sister knows sarcasm, what have you taught her?" jules teased - as both hayley and jules laughed, both hanging up and hitting caleb with their pillows.
"hey!" caleb laughed.
caleb stopped hitting back, "but for real," he said, "she's not my girlfriend."
"keep telling yourself that," jules said.
first chapter! hope you like it <3
