My name is Corrine. I'm 16 years old and I'm madly in love with my best friend, Shawn Mendes. I'm 5'4" with long dark brown almost black hair to about my mid back. I have dark brown eyes. I'm not the skinniest girl but I'm definitely not fat either. I knew I liked Shawn the minute my eyes landed on him. I remember that moment all too well...

Flashback to November 15, 2012

I had just gotten my schedule from the office. Unfortunately I accidentally slept in that morning and was late to my first day. It was the middle of 3rd period and I had science. I walked in the room and luckily the class was in the middle of working on a lab so I didn't receive any rude glares or unwanted stares from anybody. I looked around the room for the teacher, once I found her I told her that I was new. She seemed to be a nice lady. She gave me a lab and said to join any group that looked appealing to me.

That's what I liked about Ms.Caster, she didn't stop the class and put me on the spot to introduce myself. I was grateful for that. I took the paper from her hands and observed the groups. There was one of all boys who looked like they didn't give two shits about what they were doing. No. A group of all girls who looked like they had their heads too far up each others asses to even comprehend anything going on. No. Then one group stood out to me. It had the perfect balance of guys and girls and they looked pretty normal: doing work with the occasional fool around. I walked up to them and cleared my throat.

"Uh hi, um my name is Corrine and I'm new here. I was wondering if it would be okay if I worked with you guys?" I said as I chewed the inside of my cheek. One of my nervous habits. I scanned their faces for a response. My eyes landed on a boy with light brown eyes, the most perfect teeth I had ever seen, brown hair, and a scar on his cheek. I felt my breath hitch in my throat. He was gorgeous. I caught myself staring for too long and looked away.

"Yeah that would be fine!" A girl with short brown hair and a nose piercing said. "I'm Mel by the way, that's Steph, Lyall, Ian, Lauren, and Shawn." Everyone said hi and I grabbed a spot in between Ian and Mel.

Now we are all best friends and are constantly hanging out. None of them know I like Shawn because as much as I love my friends I know somehow it would come out and things between Shawn and I wouldn't be the same.

That's why I've learned to Keep My Distance.
