Skip to ellipses (...) for the start of the chapter, the following is me making excuses, so feel free to ignore!
Yikes, has it really been three years since the first part of this was uploaded? I have no excuses other than general laziness and kinda forgetting I even started posting stories here in the first place. I can't promise I'll be updating stuff regularly (just like my FanFiction.net account, on which I am horribly inconsistent too, though there are more stories over there if anyone is interested), but I will try to get around to the stories here eventually. I might start posting my other stories here too just so I have something to be uploading while I'm working on other things and procrastinating.
This chapter is a whole lot longer because the first chapter was made back when I didn't have a rough chapter-length-goal, like I do now. Hopefully, if anyone still wants to read this, it'll make up for the looooong absence. I apologise for my terrible, terrible forgetfulness, but if anyone on here likes my work and doesn't mind waiting a few months to a few years for updates, feel free to stick around. You are appreciated.
I tend to do updates in bursts, so expect something new to be uploaded or my other story to get updated first before I disappear again. Oh, and just like I've said on my FanFiction.net account, I also have a horrible habit of starting new stories up before even attempting to finish ones I'm already working on. Note: this does NOT mean that older stories won't get updated, they do! It will just take my brain longer to get back to them. So... be aware of that.
Thank you for your time!

"Jesus..."
The state of the room was just as bad as Rouge remembered, but this time she was prepared for it – the commander was not. Shadow was already by the computer, but he hadn't touched the keyboard yet. The screen was on, patiently awaiting the input of a password. They were both waiting for the commander to process what he was seeing.
"You weren't kidding..." he uttered in disbelief.
Shadow scoffed, but there was no real bite in his words, "Of course we weren't."
The commander shook his head with a sigh. "We should check that computer out."
Rouge approached Eggman and leaned down to see his face. The blood was brown and clumpy, dry. She shivered, catching a glimpse of his glassy eyes as his glasses slipped slightly. Rouge looked at the wound, centre of the forehead. A clean line of dried blood wove its way down his face. She gagged; it certainly didn't look fake. Or smell fake.
The scientist was definitely gone. The smell was enough to confirm that; he smelled absolutely foul.
She joined the other two by the computer. "Figured out the password yet?"
"Don't think we need to," Shadow responded, sounding perplexed. "There's a note by the keyboard."
"He just... left the password there?" The white bat took the piece of paper from Shadow.
The commander hummed. "Seems like it."
"It's awfully suspicious that he would make it so easy though..." Rouge muttered.
"Perhaps." Shadow motioned for the paper again. "We'll keep our guard up just in case."
Quickly, the Ultimate Lifeform typed out the single word written on the torn blue paper, a corner of a blueprint it seemed. After a moment, the computer accepted the word and granted them access.
"Well, that was definitely it." The Commander put a hand to his head.
Rouge tapped her chin. "I don't understand though... why would his password be so... simple? One word?"
