This chapter is titled after the famous Queen song 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. If you havent heard it, what planet do you live on? But seriously go check it out!
I woke up to the sound of chimes. "Weird" i thought to myself as I stretched out my arms. I looked around my room in search for Leila. From what I remember she slept over last night. There was no sign of her there, or anyone. And from the looks of it this wasn't even my bedroom. The room had bright tye dye walls, and the bed I was sleeping in wasn't even a bed but a mattress. Rather than a desk this room had a canvass, with various art supplies scattered around it. Seems to me like I got super drunk last night. Except, I didn't have a headache or the usual hangover side effects. Maybe I was on LSD? Maybe, I wanted to experience the sixties so badly I thought that I should drop some acid, a popular sixties drug. These psychedelic walls were evidence. I stepped out of the tye-dye room and walked into what seemed to be a living room. Although, there was no TV instead a massive vinyl player. I recognized the tune it was playing, it sounded like the Beatles' first single "Love me Do." Finally, I saw a person. It was a relief to know that I wasn't alone.
"Am I on drugs" I asked the women in front of me. She was thin with a body fitted for a model. She had long blonde curly hair that parted in the middle. Her outfit consisted of a croche tank, bell bottoms, and clogs. To top it off she wore a head band in her hair. She looked like the classic hippie.
"I don't think so." she chuckled
"Who are you, and where am I" I yelled, while picking up the newspaper beside me.
"Don't read that, it's all bullshit... those fucking squares own all the newspaper printing companies." she observed "Oh and my name is Madeline but, you can call me Mads... and you are in New York, the city of dreams."
"Holy shit it's 1965.." I shrieked
"Well yeah.. what year do you think it was..oh by the way what is up with your jeans. No offense but you look bizarre" she giggled
"Yeah I just thought it was.." I paused took a deep breathe to calm myself an said "I'm wearing futuristic fashion.. but do you have anything I can change into I didn't come here with a luggage or anything..." I whispered
"So tell me......"
"The name's Lucy"
"Lucy my dear, what's your story?" she said with a warm tone in her voice
"There's not much to it.. my mom and I live alone ever since my dad left.. he's the CEO of Coke youv'e probably heard of the company." Oh shit I said too much, now she will think I'm from the future and I'll be kicked out on to the streets. I should have just told her that I'm a starving artist looking for a place to stay.
"Can I get some free cocaine?" She yelped. Seems to me like the thought of free drugs really excited Madeline. But, this is the sixties and everyone does drugs so I guess I can't judge. At least she didn't ask about my dad and mom.
"Wait, what no.. I mean coke as in the soft drink." I answered with a puzzled look on my face
"Oh you mean coca-cola..."
"yeah, so what do you do here, how old are you?"
"I live.. New York is so much better than Pennsylvania. I'm eighteen.. oh and by the way I have some clothes for you because you need to get out of those hideous pants,if you even want to call them that, as soon as possible."
"Is this a youth hostel?" I asked
"Youth hostel? What? No, this is just a housing unit for people with a passion but no money for a house.. a welcoming community. Maria owns it, she's a very popular Broadway singer/dancer." She informed me "Come with me for clothes"
I followed her into a large room filled with all different types of clothes and accessories. There was an assortment of turtle necks, go-go boots and, bell bottoms in every material and color. I even found velvet bell bottoms. I didn't pick them out since today was my first day of my new life and I was not yet ready to take fashion risks. I ended up picking out a stripped sleeveless turtle neck, light wash bell bottoms with flower patches on the side. For shoes I picked out white wedges. They didn't look as comfortable as the tennis shoes or clogs but they were gorgeous.
I still couldn't believe it. I wanted to ask Madeline to pinch me. For once in my life my dream had come true. Time to prove my mom right, that the sixties are indeed better than the 21st century. Wait, what happened to my mom? Did she also move back in time? Are Leila and Carter somewhere lost in the sixties? I decided that I had to find them, I had to prove to them that the sixties is the greatest decade historically, fashionably and off course musically. I sincerely hoped that they were also here. My wish however did not include my mom, Leila and Carter but they had to be here they were my three best friends.
Furthermore I couldn't wait till I could explore New York in the sixties. This had been a dream of mine ever since I came upon a sixties magazine when I was ten. That was the day I began to follow sixties music, and fashion. On my eleventh birthday it was the first time rather than wishing for a pony I had wished for a time machine that would bring me to the sixties; and finally after six years my dream had came true. I just hoped that all the pony wishes also didn't come true because, I am not at all interested in owning 10 ponies. Then again the ten ponies would be a good way to make some money considering I'm broke. Why am I even worrying about money, this is the sixties not the g'damn 21st century. Time to live a little, and be free.
I have high hopes for my new life. I was aspiring that I could get a job as a singer. Maybe at some bar, or club. Singing has been my passion ever since my mom bought me a Karaoke machine for my fifth birthday. My mom thought I had a chance for a career but, shes a mom she has to say that.
"Damn girl, never mind what I said earlier you sure do have an eye on fashion." Madeline said after I walked out from the room of clothes
"So who else lives here." I asked
"It changes every day but unless someone has left I'm pretty sure that Harrison the guitarist, Samantha the actress and off course Maria the owner are the only people living here now." smiled Madeline
"Woah a lot of celebrities live here" I blushed
"Oh, none of us are celebrities were all just people coming to New York from a small town with big hopes and dreams. The only celebrity is Maria" she chuckled
"Hey Madeline, oh and who's this new girl" said a man
"This is Harrison the guitarist" Madeline pointed
"I'm Lucy the singer" I smiled. Harrison was gorgeous, he was so much better looking than Carter and any other guy from school. He had brown hair that went down to his shoulders and piercing blue eyes. He wore blue jeans, a button up and converse.
"Ooo a singer, we should start up a band." winked Harrison.
"Now all we need is a drummer and bass" I joked along.
"I'll let you two flirt I have to get going to work." Madeline yelled as she ran out through the door.
"We weren't flirting" I laughed it off
"Are you sure" Harrison said
And then all of a sudden he brushed his mouth against mine. I parted my lips and welcomed the kiss. I pulled away this was so very wrong.
"Well wasn't that nice " he winked
I smiled unaware of what to say. I thought about Carter. He was my boyfriend, my first love, the first guy I had sex with. I was confused and unaware of what to do. I really liked Harrison but, I couldnt just leave Carter in the dust.. well I did already leave him in the other century. Carter and I, we were in love but; now I am reconsidering whether there even still is a we.
