A/n: hi!! I know I stopped writing for a while but I'm back! I was super busy but I'll work on updating more. Just a few heads up, I'm changing  y/ns name to Thea (short for Athena) and this is no longer a colab story. my friend just got really busy and can't keep up. And sorry for all the grammar, spelling mistakes and repeat photos. Anyway enjoy!

I walked back to the gardens where Zart was already putting on his gardening gloves. As he saw me, he smiled and waved me over. I jogged to him and when I arrive he hands me a small box of little twist tie like bands. He leads me over to high gates with all sorts of plants climbing up them.

"Now with these you want to take the plant, put it right up to the gate and use the tie to secure it." He shows me and I do the same on the plant next to him. "See, you're a natural!" He says through a wide grin. "If you need me. I'll be over planting some of those seeds around the glade because we need more fruit and we are starting to run out of space if you haven't realized already," he says gesturing the all the plants around him. "So really just ask like Peter or Newt or someone," he says shrugging. Butterfly's start to form at the mention of his name.

"Got it," I say with a thumbs up.

"Good that," Zart says as he turns around and starts to walk off with his seeds. I get back to tying the vines to the gate when a boy walks up to me to stand next to me.

"So, greenie, need any help?" He says in a clearly forced deep voice.

"Nope, Zart explained it pretty well. But thanks for offering," I say with a faint smile. The boy nods.

"The names Jack," he says in his deep already annoying voice. If he tried to force anymore testosterone into his personality he would be a walking puberty poster. Between the acne, the voice, the way he puffed out his chest when he talked.

"Yeah I think we met at the bonfire, you lit my torch" I say starting to feel his eyes travel down my body. My fingers started to work faster trying to move away from him.

"Must be crazy being the only girl in the glade, you get your pick of guys," he says with a smirk. I let out a shallow laugh.

"Finding a boyfriend isn't my number 1 concern right now," I say sharply.

"Well it should be," he says his voice greeting higher as he gets irritated. He cleared his throat and said, "I mean we haven't seen a girl since... well can't remember when and especially as good looking as you are," he says his eyes once again scanning me up and down. "You need someone to protect you from thirsty boys trying to hit on you," he says with the most fake worried tone I had ever heard. I rest my head on the gate and take in a big disappointed sigh. 'Is this boy really just that stupid.' I ask myself.

"Someone who is smart," he continues not taking the hint. "Strong," he keeps going as he rests his elbow in the gate hole right next to the top of my head flexing his bicep. The pungent odor of sweat hits me like a punch in the nose. I cringe a little bit try to remained focused on working as fast as I can to finish so I can escape this nightmare. "Caring," he says moving closer. "A good listener," he notes as he puts a piece of hair that fell out of my ponytail behind my ear. I instinctively move my head away from the vile being known as 'Jack'. When Alby and Newt talk about greviors I seriously doubt they are as a bad as this clump of flesh bones and a few vital organs (a brain not included). "And kisser of course," he says through a breathy laugh. His breathe is so disgusting , it is even worse hitting my cheek. I no longer have working in fingers, I just start to move down the gate. Trying to look like I'm inspecting the plants and vines to be tied to the gate. "I mean," he says through a snicker "I think I'm a pretty good candidate." He leans in closer to me and suddenly, as if god and the angels above took pity on me once. They sent me a miracle. A miracle displayed as a tall blonde skinny boy. A tall blonde skinny boy, with an accent.

"Jack," Newt says calmly but with the undertone so harsh that I even stand a bit straighter. "What are you doin?" The look of pure terror on Jack's face was so worth every second of that extremely painful interaction. Newt was standing directly behind me. If I took the tiniest step back I would walk right into him.

"Because I thought you where supposed to be weeding the gardens," Newt says the bitterness starting to really show in his voice.

"I-I-I-I uhm uh finished," he replies timidly, his voice way higher than when he was talking to me.

"Really?" Newt says cocking and eyebrow, "all of them?" He says as he moves his head from side to side observing all 4 large gardens.

"Uhh yeah yup mhm," he says. His voice riddled with guilt.

"Alright, so if I walk over to all four right now, I would say you've had earned your dinner and didn't just walk around talk. I'm glad your making friends Jack, to be bloody honest I'm surprised you even got friends at all. But this isn't social hour, it's work time. So get your buggin arse to work weeding those shuck gardens." He says until he is practically yelling. His accent so thick that it's like a fog coming out of his mouth and into my ears, each word taking a little longer to process and fit into a sentence. Jack scurries away to the gardens and immediately starts pulling weeds. I turn around to look Newt in the eyes. His face was twisted into a scowl his brows was deeply knit parallel to his nose.

"Yeah you tell him Newt!" A shout came followed by a few others from around the different gardens, gates and trees. This snapped Newt out of his scowl and a thin smile spread across his lips.

"Yeah yeah yeah get back to work, all you shanks!" He yells back a small laugh snaking it's way into his sentence. The rest of the gladers let out a chuckle or two before they put their heads down and began work again. "Are you ok?" He asks genuinely concerned.

"Oh yeah, me? Pfft... totally, but thank you so much. I just couldn't shake him y'know? God, he was so creepy," I cringed with the thought of him.

"Oh trust me... I know." He says with a laugh. "So whatcha working on he asks as he wanders over to the section of the gate I started on. "Got sloppy here," he says pointing at a vine weakly hanging my a tie. "Yeah that's when I was starting to care less about the job and more about getting away from that walking mop over there." I say pointing out Jack's brown curly hair that often fell into his eyes. Newt let out a big laugh and playfully yanks at my ponytail. "Whatever you say tassel," I roll my eyes. "You cant talk 'bondie'" I tease as I return to my work. The rest of the day flies by and I am almost done with the gate when the ear splitting sound of stone against stone echos through the air alerting everyone's attention to the maze doors. They shut very slowly and we all watch as Minho and Ben run out red faces and drenched in sweat. They run into a small steel building and close the door with a load clang. I watch mesmerized as the doors slowly closed. That signaled the day was over.

"Common shank, days over," Newt says as he pulls me by my ponytail towards the homestead. I laugh and bat his hand away. We walk back to the homestead and we can already smell frypans dinner.

"We might not have much here, but at least we got a bloody brilliant cook," he says with a chuckle as we continue to the homestead.
