"W-what? Newt? No, no I don't love him." I stutter look back down at my sandwich. Alby let's out a long exasperates sigh.
"Do I have to explain it to you?" He raises his eyebrows at me. "You clearly like him and he is obviously head over heals for you, so, why don't you two stop flirting and just shucking date for god sake!" I sit there just starring at him. He just rolls his eyes and reaches over planting a hand on my shoulder. "Listen, Thea. Your like a little sister to me and I would never let anyone hurt you. But, I have never seen either you or Newt smile wider than when you are around each other," he says in a soothing tone. "Just kiss him, worst case scenario he rejects you so we send him to the greviors, besides there is a glade full of boys dying for you to kiss them instead of blondie" he says with a smile. I let out a nervous laugh knowing he is right. The cat calls aren't very bad at all when Newt or Alby are around but the boys are getting more confident and when I'm alone is when I feel the most vulnerable.
Both Alby and I finish our lunches and head back outside although there's only and hour or so left of work because we spent so much time talking. I jog out to the gardens and grab my gloves quickly finishing picking the tree, I was occupied with before lunch, clean. I lugged the full basket of apples over to Zart who just looked down astonished.
"You did all of that, in just 45 minutes" he said consulting his watch for the time.
"Yup!" I reply proud of myself.
"Well would you mind finishing up with the seedling planting. It might make you work a little over time though." He said wincing at the word. I laughed and replied,
"Yeah totally, since you seem allergic to the thought." He chuckled and he rolled his eyes at me starting to walk away but he turns around and quickly adds,
"On your way to the homestead, would you mind putting all the gear in the shed?" He asks but it was more like an order rather than request. I nod and start planting the small saplings.
Im lost in thought before I realized it has almost been an hour since the maze doors closed! I also realized I had planted a wall of saplings across the walkway between garden two and three. 'Zarts gunna kill me' I think to myself. I dust myself off, grab the tools and walk across the glade to the shed. Once I open the door I hear a clatter. Looking up alarmed to find a familiar tall, blonde boy with an accent looking up at me obviously surprised. He lets out a small chuckle and says,
"Oh it's you" with a relieved sigh.
"What are you doing in here? Hiding bodies?" I giggle setting down the gardening tools in their places upon the wall of the shed. Once I place the last thing on the wall I dust my hands on my pants and take a step back to observe my work. My heal catches something and I fall backwards. Suddenly Newts arms grab my back and pulls me tight up against his chest, stopping me from falling. I think he didn't realize how close we really were until his hands loosened from his grip on my back holding me. His hands loosened but never left my back.
"I- uhm sorry I didn't mean to.." his words drift off as he stares at my lips. My eyes widen as I look up at him and my arms slowly slid up and rest on his shoulders. Every part of our bodies were touching, but neither of us moved. Deciding to take Albys advice, I very cautiously began to move my face closer to his. He does the same. Our lips are inches apart, I can feel his breathe on my face. We slowly began to close the gap between us, and our lips just begin to touch when the door swings open with a bang. We both whirl our heads around panicked. I lay eyes on Minho. 'Oh no anyone but Minho!' I think to myself. His mouth is hanging open and his arms lay at his sides, eyes wide starting at the scene before him. A sly smile slides across his face and Newt pulls away from me but slides his back hand down my body till it rests on my hip. Butterflies engulf my stomach and I hide a smile.
