Grass tickled my toes delicately, like the soft caress of blankets on your skin. The wind made me shiver lightly. Ahead of me was an auburn sky, with a sun in the distance that cast light over this strange world.
I saw hundreds of flickering lights on different platforms that floated in the sky. Each light signified another player logging onto Sword Art Online- another player who was probably exactly like me.
I wondered for a moment if my friends were among the lights I saw. I had met some people on another online game, and became quite close to them. They were as good friends to me as anyone in the real world. They were also passionate gamers like me, and had wasted no time in buying SAO.
There were five of them in all; Fishy, Slvr, Damea, Chloe, and Bubble. How the six of us had come to know eachother, I don't remember, but I loved them dearly now.
I was still lost in shock and awe when a little window appeared, floating delicately in front of me.
'From: SlvrSong.' The first line read. My stomach lurched in happiness- I was finally going to have "contact" with one of my closest online friends!
'Hey Flare! I can't believe we are finally going to be able to 'see' eachother!! Heehee :3... I guess we should party up?' I read the note quickly before opening the window below her name, and selecting "Party Invite".
Soon enough, a little bubble at the edge of my vision popped up with Slvr's name and HP level.
I popped open the menu by waving my hand subtly in front of me, and then selected the box that read "SlvrSong". I then lightly tapped a rectangle that said "Teleport to Current Location".
My vision rapidly blurred, turning the world around me into a random slush of color. The color slowly rearranged itself into a comprehensible image.
I had to blink several times in order to make sense of what I saw. I was inside some kind of restaurant made of wood. Wooden chairs and tables littered the room messily, and I could see five figures crowded around the room.
Four more HP bars were now added to my list of party members, each paired with a familiar name.
"Damea",
"Fisherman3",
"Chloe",
and,
"TheXBubble".
My friends stared at me blankly for a moment before they realized who I was. I practically screamed in excitement as Chloe, Damea, and Slvr's avatars clustered around me in a group hug.
Damea had long, chestnut brown hair that cascaded down her back in loose, wavy curls. She sported the generic level 1 armor that we all had on now. Her skin was lightly tanned, as was all of ours- a generic setting.
Chloe had dark green hair that was layered and straight, and cut off right above her shoulder blade.
Slvr's blonde hair was the same as mine- curly and bouncy, going down to about her waist. We were all about the same height, with the same eyes and similar faces.
The boys- Fishy and Bubble- sat in two wooden barstools across the room, smirking at out little hug-fest. Apparently THEY were "too cool" for group hugs.
Bubble had orange-y hair cut at an average length, and Fishy had black hair that was only slightly longer. They towered a full foot above us girls, which was kind of intimidating considering I was so tall in real life.
"Flare, I can't believe that we can finally do this!!! Be here, talk to eachother." Damea said excitedly, "It's just so cool!"
I spoke with a voice that I immediately realized wasn't my own, "Yeah, it's kind of... amazing!"
"This is gonna be super duper fun! I can't wait to go on adventures, and go shopping, and train, and- oh, yeah! Get rich!" Slvr spouted out in a delightful squeal.
Chloe pulled her sword out of it's holster and examined it closely. It's sleek profile could easily kill anything in one hit had it been real life.
"I can't believe we can control these dangerous weapons..." Chloe murmured.
"It's not like it's real life or anything, though. You can't die, so it's okay." Damea reassured her "daughter".
"Y'all sure are quiet." I smirked at the boys, still sitting in the corner with their arms crossed in a casual manner.
"Well, if you MUST know," Bubble smarted off, "Me and Fish here were having a serious conversation about how loud you girls are."
Fish chuckled a bit and put a hand to his ear as if he'd hurt it. "Yeah, your 'greetings' kind of assaulted our eardrums."
We all let out a small laugh, and Slvr smiled apologetically at Fishy.
"Sorry about that," She laughed.
Everyone launched into conversation at once, erupting the room into a vat of talking, laughter, and squeals. I stepped back a bit to take in the scene while I could.
The six of us. Here. Together. It's not something I ever thought could happen....
Apparently I was wrong.
