SOULMATE AU: Idol San x Reader
If you guys remember the tiktok trend that is like your bias is your soulmate and can hear what you're singing. This is based on that prompt. Enjoy Reading!!!

San was lying in his bed, his heart beating in his ears. Soon it would be midnight abd he would turn 18. Soon he'd be able to share songs with his soulmate... if they were also 18 already.

If not he'd have to wait.

'I'll wait for them.' San thought, determination filling his head.

Soon it was midnight and he was officially 18. San held his breath. What if...?

But he was met with silence. And then the sound of his fellow trainees entering his room, a small cake with a lit candle in their hands.

"Happy birthday to you ~" his friends sang. San sat up as Wooyoung, his best friend, jumped on his back and kept on shaking his shoulders. "My boy is 18!!!" the hyper boy screeched in San's ears, despite himself being younger by a few months.

San thanked his friends and hyungs and after a small celebration, went to sleep with only one thought in his mind. When will he get to hear them?

Maybe they're asleep now. Or maybe they're not 18 yet. Maybe he'll hear them tomorrow. Or the next day. The possibilities are endless.

______

One whole year had passed. San was 19 now. And as much as he tried to keep faith in destiny he had his own doubts. What if he doesn't get a soulmate? What if his soulmate is...mute. There were a lot of scenarios going on through his head but he tried his best to not be disheartened.

Instead he focused on his incoming debut. San was going to debut next month as an idol with his friends as a group called ATEEZ, and he did not want to lose focus in the least. But sometimes, when San would be in his bunk bed falling asleep, he couldn't help but imagine...what if they were a fan. That would be nice.

_______

Time had passed again. San had finally debuted. He was officially an idol and as all idols, had become very busy with his schedules. Their fans, though a modest amount, were very supportive, loyal, and passionate. Often during his free time, he'd be on SNS to see what his fans thought about him and his group.

Today was one such day. The group was preparing for their first comeback and had got one free day to rest. San was sitting in the living room couch, scrolling away on his phone. Some members were playing video games in the TV. Some of the members were at the gym while others were in their rooms catching up on sleep.

It was relatively calm with the occasional cheer from the two boys, Yunho and Mingi, playing the game. Wooyoung was spread across the couch, next to San, half asleep. Suddenly San heard someone humming a familiar tune.

At first he thought that it was Wooyoung but one look at him and San found him already asleep. He locked his phone and got up to check on the other members. 'Maybe they're playing a song?' San asked himself.

But the low humming stayed constant throughout the dorm. It wasn't clear, as if distant but he was sure about whom it belonged to.

His soulmate.

San silently sat back on the couch next to Wooyoung, leaned his head back and shut his eyes. Without him knowing, a sweet smile had graced his lips.

"What are you thinking about, you freak?"

San opened his eyes to find Wooyoung eyeing him, and said, with a smile ever so wide, "My soulmate."

"What?" asked Wooyoung in a high pitched voice.

"My soulmate," said San aloud which prompted the tall duo to pause the game they were playing and turn to face WooSan instead.

"I can hear them, my soulmate. They're singing."

"Ohmygod ohmygod. What- what are they singing?" asked Wooyoung, excited for his best friend.

"Hmmm..." San realised he was so excited to hear their voice he never registered what they were singing. He concentrated on the now clearer voice and sang out loud what he heared:

"Don't leave me, I believe, hashiridasu
No ending, kimi wa boku no kodou
Tatoe donna ame ni utarete mo
Tatoe donna yami ni kesarete mo"
[Don't Leave Me- BTS]

"OH MY GOD THAT'S BTS!!!" Wooyoung exclaimed, his ARMY brain realising the lyrics and tune scarily quickly, "THEY'RE AN ARMY!!! YOU'RE SOULMATE IS AN ARMY!!!"

"They're singing in Japanese though," commented Mingi whuch meant the obvious, to which San's smile faltered a little.

"But this also means they listen to KPOP!" Yunho quickly intercepted, smacking Mingi on the back.

San tried to say that he'd learn Japanese, he's already practicing to talk to ATINYs. But something stopped him, making him smile.

"I don't think they know Japanese. They only sing the chorus and mumble during the rest of the song," San said aloud, chuckling at the mumbled rapping he could hear.

"What do they sound like? Someone you've heard before?" asked Wooyoung.

San didn't have to think long. His soulmate was singing passionately, but definitely didn't know how to sing. He could easily check off that they were not idol.

"They're a passionate singer," San told his members, "But very off key."

"I wonder if they listen to our songs. They know Kpop at least." Yunho commented.

Before San could reply to the tall boy he heard them sing another familiar song.

"WAIT" he exclaimed, "they're singing IDOL now!! AND they don't fumble at the words!!"

To this his friends cheered. 'At least they would know Korean.' After talking a while they each went off to their own business.

_____

San was now exercising at the gym. His soulmate had stopped singing a while ago after jamming to a few more BTS songs. He was wondering if they knew about ATEEZ.

He knew they had just debuted a few months ago and so were not as famous. But San had determined that one day he'll be successful enough that his soulmate would know him.

Who knows, maybe if they'll become a fan, they can meet each other sooner.
