(secondary school = middle school)
Sidona clutched the note tightly to her chest, her face hot although the school hall was blasting with cool air. Letter balloons which spelt out 'Class of 2015' and a Congratulation banner decorated the usually plain looking hall. It was finally graduation day and she should feel happy, if not relieved for the break she has before entering secondary school. Instead, all she could think about was how Benjamin only saw her as a friend and nothing more. His playful smile floods her mind as she slowly walks out of the hall with eyes downcast. Aria and Shirley, her best friends, followed her, as they too witnessed the exchange between Benjamin and Sidona. Although they do not know the contents of the note, they could roughly make out that whatever was penned on it made their best friend close to tears.
The trio went to the nearest girl's bathroom. "Are you alright?", Aria asked while placing her hand on Sidona's back to comfort her. Sidona stared blankly at her. "He...he only sees me as... a friend!" Sidona replied, her lips trembling and her body shaking. "It's his loss. You are amazing and if he can't see that he doesn't deserve you!" Shirley said while hugging Sidona.
After imagining her happy place and taking many deep breaths, Sidona managed to calm down. "You're right guys, thanks for the pep talk." Sidona replied. They slowly made their way back to the main hall and enjoyed the rest of the graduation night, laughing over funny memories, taking countless pictures at the Photo Booth and singing along to the latest pop hits.
That night, Sidona pondered about what her friends said and felt a teeny bit better about her (lacklustre) love life. Deep down she knew she should let Benjamin go, but her heart aches to do so. Tossing in her bed, she finally shut her eyes and drifted to sleep...
