We arrived at a gas station. Daryl grabbed his crossbow. I took out my handgun out of its holster. I wiped away the blood from the previous walker from the night before, I was surprised we got through one night with no trouble at all.
"Are you ready" asked Daryl
"As much as I'll ever be" I answered
Daryl had pounded on the door, like he had always done before entering any place with supplies, hoping for them to warn them to steer clear or kill it, all the way. Daryl opened the heavy glass door as it squeaked a shriek so unheard of that I'm surprised every walker in the village didn't arrive, looking for their latest meal.
It looked unusually safe. I expected it to be crawling with hungry walkers waiting for someone to sink their teeth into. Instead there was nothing.
"Lets split up, so we can cover more ground. You got your knife" asked Daryl
I nod.
Daryl searches for useful things as I looked in the food and clothing section. I watched as he lugged around his crossbow. I wondered how he never got tired of carrying it all the time. I guess it's that or die in this day.
I see mainly lots of spoiled and moldy breads and pastries. I find the canned foods.
Beets.
"I never liked beets but these will have to do, they should stay good for awhile." I thought to myself.I open my bag and stuff as many cans as I could. Next I look at the clothes. Everything was covered in blood and guts, either walker or human. I examine a walker lying on the floor leaning against the glass canned foods aisle. It seemed to be all the way dead. I stepped over it as it grabbed my leg and opened its mouth to get a taste of me. I kicked it away and stomped on its head, I walked off to find Daryl as I wiped the squished guts off my hands onto the nearest shirt.
Daryl came running to me.
"You alright?" He whispered
Yeah just ran into this one. I answered, pointing to the bloody walker on the dirty gas station floor.
"Well we gotta go before every walker in to county shows up."
We ran out the door as the bell rung.
