"Me and Kotoko are having tons of fun!"

Monaca was cheerfully calling Towa, telling him all the things they plan to do today. Her little hands grasped onto Kotoko to pose for a picture to send to her big brother for proof.
"Well, that's good then. You didn't forget anything, right?" Haiji asked. He slumped beside the couch, relaxing his nerves as he avoided thinking about the invite later. Hiroko already texted him her address, so he was just biting time.

Monaca handed Kotoko the phone as Monaca went to grab something. Her long pink hair dangled around her arms as she held the phone steadily. It was a little bigger than her hands, Monaca had a protective case on it, to prevent it from breaking easily in her grasp. Although, she did get to pick the design, so it was a clunky pastel green phone with cute little flower and teddy bear stickers on it, with a few chibi animal skulls.

"Monaca can have sweets, right??" Kotoko asked, keeping her grip tight on her friend's phone.
"..yes, she can. And you sure your mom can take her home?"
"Yea! I tots promise!"
Monaca stumbled into the room again, holding a jenga box.
"Can we play now?" Monaca asked, her feet danced in place against the carpet waiting for an answer.
"Yeah, yeah.. I hope you two have fun. Don't cause trouble, Monaca."
Kotoko handed Monaca her phone,
"I wont! Buh-bai, Meow!" She said cheerfully, hanging up the phone.

Haiji sighed, and decided to fall backwards onto the couch.
Ever since he met Hiroko, it has been hard to do any work of his own.
He never liked his job, but it just seemed much more of a bore lately. On good days, he would force himself to do his work anyways, it's what his dad would want. It's what the company would need. His grandpa took over, and his father before him. It was just family business.

Towa hazily starred at the ceiling, collecting his thoughts.
"It would be bad if Hiroko and I started dating anyways.. She has her kid, and I have the business."
The thought alone made him upset, but it's what his dad would say.
"A woman would just get in the way, Haiji!" He remembers his father saying to him.
It was dark out, and Haiji was barely ten yet.  He went to his dad's office to deliver food like the nice secretary lady had asked him to, and his father had been drinking a foul smelling liquid.
He slurred his words with anger noted inside, his movements unpredictable.
"All women will be the same!" Haiji didn't know what his dad was talking about..
"H-Huh..?" He barely even understood what dating was yet.
"My son.. listen to me when I'm talking to you.." His father said, little Towa tried.
"Never.. EVER! ..Date anyone.."
Tokuichi Towa then collapsed to his knees onto the ground, his eyes welling up.
His tie was loose, he was drinking for hours with himself, alone with whatever was in his head.
His son had never seen him like this before, it scared him..
"Please..."

..Haiji hadn't realized he was closing his eyes until they suddenly shot open, taking his attention away from the painful memory.
Knockknockknock!
Oh.. the door.
Haiji huffed, not wanting to get up just yet.
"Hello?" He calls out.
"I-I need to ask you something!"
It was a vaguely familiar voice called out back..
It sounded like a young boy, their voice hadn't hit puberty and they sounded nervous.
Who..?

The sudden visit was prompting him to stand up and open the door.
Towa sighed, and reluctantly did so. He stood up from the couch, dragging his feet to the door. Unlocking the door, he slowly opened it to reveal a small boy.
"Nagisa?" He asks, more so to make sure he got the name right, rather than to ask what he wanted..
"Uhm, is Monaca home?" Nagisa asks quickly, almost not stopping to hesitate.
Haiji shook his head, explaining where she was and giving rather subtle hints that he should go off and play somewhere else.. He wasn't in the mood to watch over a kid.

"Oh, that's too bad.." Nagisa states sadly, fidgeting his hands, he was holding a phone.
"I'm.. not exactly supposed to be here right now, actually.." The boy admits, refusing to make any eye contact to avoid a disappointed look. Rather, Haiji had a confused one.
Nagisa went on, saying that he wanted to be at someone else's house, since his home was "hectic," as he said. Every time Towa asked what happened, the kid looked away, only being able to hold eye contact when his confidence came back to ask him a different question or statement.
"Can't you hang out with your other friends?"
Nagisa looking away once again. "..They aren't home either.."
