Nate was a fucking menace. She could hear him through the walls throwing things around. Usually she would feel bad for him but she was at the end of her patience with him. His temper tantrums only served to annoy her at this point.

So she got changed and headed to the mall. The thing she liked about Cassie was that she was nice. And not nice in a tricky way like a lot of girls. She wasn't nice because she wanted something from people. She was just nice because that's how she was.

Her bright smile was greeting her when she walked into the food court. Cassie came over to pull her into a tight hug and despite not being much of a hugger she obliged.

"Welcome back, I'm literally so happy to see you," she said, a warm grin still covering her face.

"Considering the circumstances, I'm not thrilled to be back," the girl replied, with a grimace. There was a bright side to it because she definitely wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Nate. And she didn't absolutely despise her time here.

"Oh yeah..." Cassie's words trailed off as she realized her mistake. But she quickly recovered, grabbing the other girl's hand and dragging her into a store.

She sat down on the couch in the store and watched Cassie frolic around the store, grabbing different skirts and tops to try on. "What's your costume?" she asked, returning with the clothes.

She shook her head and shrugged. "I'm probably not going to wear one. It's just kinda dumb," she replied.

"Don't be like that. Halloween is the one night of the year a girl can dress like a total slut," Cassie said, quoting Mean Girls. She walked to the dressing room, the other girl following behind her.

"Forgive me for not wanting to slut it out in front of highschoolers," she joked.

She was sitting on the bench outside the dressing room as her friend tried on her outfits. "Fez is gonna be there," Cassie teases.

"Stop it, Cassie. Nothing is going on." Her voice was firm and sharp. The typical gossip was not her forte. She took this teasing as a hostile act and she responded accordingly.

"The FIRST thing you do when you get back is have a sleepover with him and then you're gonna sit here and claim nothing is going on. You're so full of shit," Cassie ranted. She had now opened the door to the dressing room so they could look at eachother. Her kind and carefree smile was enough to shake the grumpy girl out of her mood.

"Ok fine," she offered, not really knowing what she was saying yes to. Cassie stared at her blankly waiting for more. "If you pick out a halloween costume for me I'll wear it," she continued.

Cassie yelped in excitement and went to grab some clothes for her to try on. She was starting to like all this girly stuff. Her and her mother were never close and her younger sister was a whole different story. But it was nice to have a female friend to contrast with all the male influences in her life.

She had brought back a black dress, red fishnets, and a pair of thigh high boots. "I'll get you some horns and you can be like a demon or something," she explained excitedly.

She just laughed at her friend's enthusiastic comment. "What are you trying to say about me, Cass?" she joked. Despite that she did try the clothes on and they did look good so she decided to buy them and get it over with.

They went back to the food court and sat down to eat. From the look in her eyes she could tell Cassie was about to ask her more questions. "Don't say it," she said before she could say anything.

"Come onnnn. Why can't we talk about him?" Cassie whines, wanting to get more information about her friend's love life.

Cassie centered men in her life. She loved to be loved. When she was dating a guy she would give him everything. She wanted to talk about him. Crushes and dating and love were a place she felt safe. It was something she understood.

"Fine, but tell me about you and Mckay first," she offered, wanting to read the room before she had to say anything.

"I think I messed up because I totally flirted with and kissed this guy at the carnival," she explained, her voice shaking. She honestly looked like she was about to cry.

Not knowing how to handle the situation in the slightest would be an understatement of feelings for the girl sitting across the table from a crying Cassie. "Oh yeah... that's unfortunate," she muttered, looking down at her food.

There was a painful moment of silence. Cassie wiped her face and perked up, not wanting to be a downer. "Soooooo. Now you have to tell me about you and Fez," she demanded, leaning forward in her seat.

She groaned and rolled her eyes at her friend's request. It's not like there was much to tell but it still felt like something she wanted to keep to herself. Fez didn't seem like the kind of guy who wanted to be talked about. "I slept on his couch, it's not a big deal," she said bluntly.

Then her phone started buzzing. And of course she had to pick it up and of course it had to be Nate calling her.

"Sorry, about that. Thank you for today but I gotta get going," she said quickly, grabbing her things and hurrying away.

"Bye, I'll see you this weekend," Cassie replied softly, waving as she walked away.

The shopping was nice. So was the conversation. She didn't know why she had to be so cold to people. She hoped her being an asshole didn't hurt Cassie's feelings because she got the idea that she was a sensitive person.

Oh well, worrying about everything was one of her fatal flaws. She figured she might as well go get fucked up.

But before she could do anything she had to take this call.

"Hey where the fuck are you?"

"Literally I was at the mall for maybe two hours. What do you need?"

"I have a plan. I can fra-"

"Yeah whatever your plan is it sounds illegal so don't tell me on the phone dumbass!"

"Yeah whatever, where are you now?"

"In the car."

"Where are you going?"

And then she hung up. She wasn't going to tell him where she was going because he would try to stop her. Because he was an asshole who needed to control everyone in his life. She was angry now, she didn't know why. There were so many things to be angry about she couldn't think of just one.
