"Scarlet, you're with Amber" Mr.Graham said. I was in math class, and it was the last period. Mr.Graham had just assigned us partners, for the math homework. Apparently, a lot of us were having trouble doing the math so we have to do it in partners. I was just waiting for my name to be called, and to see who my partner was.
"Jason and Jessica" He said as Jessica and Jason groaned. I'm guessing they don't like each other that much. Jessica got up and went to where Jason was sitting, and they went to work.
"Alex and Jamie" He said. I looked behind me, to Jamie. She was that new girl. I hope she's nice, that way we can be friends. Maybe.
I got up from my seat and went over to her. She was sitting alone at the back of the class. I just went beside her, and sat down. She finally looked at me, and for a moment she just stared. She looked at me as if she was staring right into my soul. After that whole one sided staring contest thing, she smiled. She just smiled at me, and than turned around to face our paper.
"So, do you know what we're doing?" She asked me. I just nodded while saying, "Yeah, to turn fractions into percentages you divide the numerator by the denominator"
I looked up from the paper to see her shocked and confused face. Just like everyone, she had the same expression. I'm guessing she was shocked cause I look like a dumb tomboy, but I'm goad she didn't say that. And then BOOM! I'm all smart. And why was she confused? Probably because she got none of that. I just shook away that thought because I didn't want to be judgemental and say that she was dumb. That would be very rude of me.
"Uh...I got none of that" She said chuckling nervously. Told ya.
"So, if the fraction is 3/9 than you would divide 3 by 9 in a calculator" I said getting a calculator, and doing the math. I pressed 3 and than the division symbol, and than the 9 and than the = symbol. After I pressed all the numbers, the answer came up.
"So, 0.33 would,be the percentage?" She questioned me with an eyebrow raised. I just shook my head.
"No, thats the decimal. The percent would be 33" I said, and she nodded as if saying she understands.
"So, for this 2/3 it would be...." She said and she paused. She grabbed the calculator and did the math. After a while she turned the calculator for me to see and said, "66 percent?"
"YES!" I said and pat her on the back. She had a proud smile on her face, and I smiled back.
I can't believe I just taught someone math. I mean, she knew math, but not this. I just taught someone math. And we worked TOGETHER on it. Me and Scarlet never worked together.
*Flashback*
"Alex and Scarlet, get to work" We heard as we stopped giggling.
"Ok, Alex you do this and I'll do the back page" Scarlet said and than she just turned and put her back to me. I think thats fair. I do one page and she does the back. As I worked on it I heard giggling and saw that Amber and Scarlet were laughing it off. She was pointing at Jason and laughing. I just sighed and got back to work.
"I'm done Scarlet, you can do the back now" I said and handed the paper to Scarlet. She burst out laughing. "There is no back, there was only one side"
Oh. How did I not notice that? Stupid me! I just did all the work, and Scarlet gets the same mark as me. How un-fair?
*Flashback*
She never did any of the work.
"Ok, I did half, your turn" Jamie said pulling me out of my thoughts. She gave me the paper, and half of them were done. She smiled at me, and I smiled back.
This is the fair way.
I did 12 questions but I was stuck on the last one. It was using letters too. How do letters and math involve each other? Letters are for English, and language. Numbers are for Math. They should keep it that way, and no one gets confused. It's not fair either, because I was so good at math when their weren't letters. And now BOOM! Theres letters and now I don't even wanna pay attention in class.
"I have no idea what we're supposed to do in this question" I said to Jamie.
"CLASS! The last question is for you to figure out, and tomorrow we'll discuss it" Mr.Graham said as the bell rung. I just stood up, and toke the paper with me. I hurried out of the class, and went down to my locker. I can't have the brats knowing where I am, or else they would annoy me forever.
I was running out of the school, and I ran into someone and fell down. I was just sitting there on my butt, while the boy was also on the floor, but he was rubbing his head with his hand. It looked like he got more hurt than me, so I said sorry. "It's fine. My fault I should've watched where I was going" He said.
"It's both of our faults, so sorry and byeee" I yelled as I got up and ran.
I kept running, and running till I got home.
The end of the chapter.
