As I approached the phone, I worried about who it was. Did I really want to hear from the man who was threatening Charlie? I summoned my courage and picked up the phone
"Hello" I asked timidly. "Hey Mer, it's me" I heard Charlie say into the phone.
"Hey Charlie, what's up" I finally responded. "I just wanted to know if you would like to go get dinner together tonight?"
After catching my breath and composing myself, I answered "yeah, where and when"
Two hours later, I was ready and on my way to Charlie's house for our dinner.
I had to keep reminding myself to relax and enjoy the dinner. I could only think of the threat looming over us.
