Lucy, or 'Feather' as her new name is, drags her feet slightly behind Doe as she thinks about what she's really getting into. Since she loves mysteries as much as she hates bullies. Feather thinks back to the letter from Michael Junior High, with one sentence written in translucent ink at the bottom.
If you have any questions or to withdrawn from the school at anytime. Come to the Principal's office at anytime.
Feather tunes Doe out as she thinks about organizing the questions she wants to ask.
Number one would definitely be why she was accepted into the school, when no other students from this community has ever been accepted before. Or at least as far as the girl knows.
That much, should be answered. She is very picky, and notices that she is allowed to go the Principal's office if she has questions, but it says nothing about answering them. The girl loves play on words and uses it all the time. She knows how to carefully detect the meanings behind one's words, and manners of speech, so accustomed with her game of words that she doesn't stop to think about how logical it would be for an adult.
Feather tunes back in on Doe's explanations as they walk around. So far she has the general idea, that each building is modeled after the famous buildings to give the international students a sense of being in that country (helps against homesickness too), though the lessons given are generally similar, depending on the grade level. One significant difference is the sense of culture in each individual building. There are lessons taught and teachers to teach them, but on higher levels of each building, there are replications of the city streets in that country. To be more specific, there is a market for every major country for every well known city on the upper levels of every lecture building (again, still a work in progress as more buildings are being built). It's set out rather like a university, except the students generally stay in their own buildings except when it is time to return to the dormitories. Then the students can choose to 'mingle' as Doe so carefully words it, and have interactions until sunset. At that time, all the students must be in their rooms and rest for the day. Rising time is generally the same throughout the year, for the students of the same country. It varies slightly between the different cultures, to suit the students better.
Every student has their own uniform, limited to three sets of each outfit and one set of pajamas. Other clothing can be purchased at the markets. Whenever a student needs to wash any clothing, they can throw it down a laundry shoot directly beside the closet, and it will return to the closet, pressed and folded neatly the next day. No one really knows the mechanics of it, but the basics are that there is a identifier in the uniform that registers it as yours. The dirty clothing travels through the shoots to a factory somewhere where they are hand washed by workers-
"Hand washed?" The girl asks. "Why not just put it into a washing machine? Isn't that much simpler."
Doe signs, annoyed by the interruption but understands why Feather would question it. "Perhaps it is how you do it at home, but this school is different."
Different from any school Feather has ever known.
Doe continues on with her explanation about how the clothes are then dropped down from a hole at the top of the closet. The theory is that the fresh clothes are sent up a tube by wind (air pressure), which circles around to every closet in the school, which is a huge system, delivering it to the correct room based on the identifier. Though it is up to the students sharing the room to identify their own articles of clothing. Purchased pieces of clothing are marked by the merchants and have the same identifiers as the uniforms-
"Wait! Sharing a room!?" Feather clearly did not think that through clearly before coming to the school, and she does not want anyone to know her eyes are violet. They resulted in endless teasing from her previous school, causing her to switch to her blue contacts and lying to the students about her violet 'contacts'.
