SYLVIE POV:
The light faded, and I opened my eyes to a field of wheat, a plane of soft gold stretching out as far as I could see. The sky was a deep blue, with large clouds floating peacefully high up above me.
I didn't recognize this place. I turned around to adjust to my surroundings, but a breeze passed by, blowing my hair into my face. I brushed the hair out of my eyes, and squinting, made out a figure approaching from a distance.
He was walking down a dirt path that bisected the acres of wheat. As he came closer, I could make out that he was tall, with a rugged face. Pale blonde hair and a thin beard with matching color stood out amongst his other features.
Grey? I wondered to myself. But something was not quite right...my soul didn't recognize him as someone that it was bonded to, despite the striking resemblance.
I stood still as he walked up to me, realizing from his intentional gait that this man could see me. When he stood in front of me, a short distance away, I noticed that his eyes were draconic: they were golden in color, with vertical pupils. The man opened his mouth to speak.
"Miss...Sylvie?" he asked tentatively. I looked up at him and nodded, not sensing any danger from giving him my identity.
The man knelt in front of me, an awed smile on his face.
"So...you're real," he breathed, his voice trembling slightly with disbelief. "And you're just like how he described you."
I tilted my head to the side, and spoke for the first time. "He?" I asked.
The man snapped back to attention and cleared his throat.
"Forgive me for staring, it's just..." he trailed off, unsure of how to finish his sentence. I waited patiently for him to resume. The way that he awkwardly paused in his speaking reminded me of Grey, and brought a small smile to my lips.
He scratched his head. "I'm sorry for asking this out of the blue, and I know you must have a lot of questions, but could you follow me?"
I nodded again. The man looked somewhat nervous about talking to me, so I smiled at him to let him know that I was comfortable with following him.
"Then..." the man walked back through the wheat towards the dirt path, and I followed him.
We walked side-by-side in silence. I kept my eyes on the path, and occasionally looked around at the fields around me, but I could see the glances that he kept stealing at me out of the corner of my eye.
I could tell that he wanted to ask me questions, and I had a mountain of questions that I wanted to ask as well, but I could sense that I would get the answers that I was looking for wherever I was being led to.
After walking for a short while, I heard the sound of laughter. A farmhouse came to view on our left, with a wooden fence separating it from the fields of wheat around it. There were children playing on the other side of the fence, chasing each other around and rolling in the dust. I saw the same pale blonde hair on some of them that reminded me of Grey, but others had dark brown hair.
When the children saw me walking by, they stopped playing and stared, and began whispering to one another. As we passed by the entrance, I could see even from a distance that their eyes were golden; the distinct eye color stood out on their little faces.
They can see me too, I thought to myself. I had already figured out that this wasn't a memory, but now I was even more curious as to where exactly I had been transported to.
