You two were classmates but didn't knew much about her. You mind your own business and didn't want to get involved with any drama. When Koito came along you didn't even talk to her.
"She might be a new student but that doesn't mean that I should befriend her." That's what she thought until the incident. She didn't think about that type of thing will happen. From that day she feel bad for Koito and Ai.
When Ai is on her way to her home, you approach her.
"Ai... I'm sorry for your loss." You bowed "I'm guessing that you will not go to school tomorrow?"
"Maybe forever..." Ai replied
"Oh. Then can I visit?"
"Eh! Why?"

You started to hangout with Ai but in her house only. Yes that's it.
If You Are A Boy
The boys is the one who bullied Ai. No doubt. You didn't want to do it tho. You are already 14 and you should act more mature than them.
You always try to talk with her but the boys pull you away. After the incident the boys stop with their messing around habit and mind their own business. While you the trusted student in the class have to follow teacher Sawaki for his counseling section or whatever.
Teacher Sawaki think that having someone the same age as Ai might help but things just get awkward at first. After a few times meet again with Ai, you and her start to be less awkward and really try to help Ai get better.
