Chapter 15.
Winston POV
He's staring at me, I just know he is. He's been doing it for the past couple of minutes since we had been allowed yard time. His eyes had been glued to me. Every move I made they followed me, closely observing me from where he was sitting on top of a picknick table. His dad was sitting next to him, also staring at me and looking unimpressed as ever. Not to act conceited or anything, but I'm like 80 precent sure those two have been talking about me. Especially after the thing that had happened yesterday.
Yesterday, I think my heart had skipped a beat when Monty told me I was going to be working for him. What did he mean by that? He can't seriously expect me to go run drugs for him, can he? Or did he have something else in mind for me when he said that? Either way it's making me nervous as hell. Unfortunately we didn't have the chance to talk some more, because after that his dad came barging through the door, appearing to be in a terrible mood. As a reaction to it Monty appeared to be frozen. He immediately had gotten awkwardly quiet, so then I decided it was time to leave.
With the little Spanish I knew, I couldn't help but overhear Monty's dad asking him who I was and what I had been doing in their cel. I'm not going to lie, it did stung a little when Monty had answered: "not important...". I've spend the rest of the night laying awake thinking about it.
He was now looking my way again.
I simply couldn't deny his eyes burning against the side of my face, however I tried my hardest to ignore them. Instead I tried focusing on the game in front of me. Scott and some other guys were playing basketball on the court. I have to admit, Scott was really on a roll today. He had already managed to score 9 points for his team and was now planning another one of his famous attacks. He'd almost scored again just now if it wasn't for Diego who had managed to block him in the very last second. It was good to see Scott looking somewhat close to happy again. Because of the fight with his boyfriend, he completely has stopped smiling lately and the same goes for Justin. It's been rough on the both of them and I truly hope the two of them make up soon because it's exhausting to be friends with them at the moment. I'm tired of having to pick a side. It just makes me wish things would go back to normal again...
Charlie, who had been watching the game with me from the sidelines, let out a soft squeal, causing me to roll my eyes at him. Charlie hates basketball, or any sport in general. He's told me himself. Right now he's probably only watching it for Diego. His eyes had been glued to the guy this whole time. Every time Diego did something simple as only touching the ball Charlie had started acting all excited, saying things like: "Wow, did you see that? Diego is so good!". I don't think Charlie even knows that the team he's cheering for is losing big time. I bet he doesn't even know the rules! But then again, I doubt he cares.
I'm definitely no sports fan either, but watching the guys play counts as a good distraction. It's a nice way to take my mind of some things...
"Oh my god, that was close!", Charlie exclaimed as he grabbed my arm in excitement. I wasn't even paying attention anymore but by the clear look of frustration on Diego's face I believe he again had failed to get the ball through the hoop. I noticed him cursing under his breath as he threw away the ball in anger, only to get scolded on by one of the guards for apparently 'trying to kill somebody'. With a basketball? I wonder how that would work...
Charlie was still tightly clutching my arm and it was really starting to get on my nerves. I don't think this guy's ever heard of 'personal space'. "Jezus Charlie, get a grip", I mumbled while trying to push him away from me, making him chuckle. He then finally let go of my arm. "I'm sorry! I'm just só emotionally invested in this game". Hmm... sure Charlie, you tell that yourself.
