Kalani woke up the next day to a rustling in the bathroom. She tiredly rubbed her eyes and rose from the bed because seeing what Not-Castiel was up to seemed more interesting than returning to bed, especially after he hadn't returned last night.
Just as she lifted her hand to knock, the light within switched off. She dropped her hand to the doorknob and promptly turned it, following the man before he could close the other door. He was lowering himself onto the bed when Kalani appeared through the bathroom, leaning against the doorframe to watch him pull the leg of his pants up.
"Where were you last night?" She curiously asked as Not-Castiel placed the towel hanger on the inside of his leg and began wrapping a piece of cloth around it.
He spared her a single glance before returning to wrapping his leg.
Kalani didn't need an answer.
With Chidi, Ellie grumbled.
Most likely.
"I thought you were done with her," Kalani inhaled, stepping into the room with no particular destination in mind. She slowly paced around, swinging her arms with her. "After she called you dumb and all."
He was done by the time she ended her suggestion and pulled his pant leg down with a heavy breath. "What are you talking about?"
She shrugged. "You know."
His tired eyes continued to watch her boredly, not seeming to get the hint. It made Kalani wonder if she may be wrong and the thought of being wrong was embarrassing. What if he misunderstood her intentions? In front of Not-Castiel, such humiliation would be traumatizing.
"Nevermind," she shook her head and began out the room.
"Makoa."
She turned to him, only then noticing the slight darkness around his eyes. The weight of his eyelids conveyed that he may not have gotten the best sleep last night. His uncomfortable injuries were probably the reason. Kalani hadn't gotten much sleep either, but her physical discomfort couldn't really take full responsibility.
"What did you tell them?" He asked.
"That it was a mistake," she admitted simply.
"And they believed it?"
"You're alive," she motioned to him. "I don't think they have a choice. They think that it's the killer who manages the screen so Assad suggested that he made a mistake –thinking he killed you when he actually never did," she mumbled.
He took her words into consideration for a moment but didn't nod. Instead, Not-Castiel had his own question. "Is it?" He asked.
Kalani met his gaze, unable to suppress the growing feeling in her chest every time she looked into his eyes. It had begun to sprout since she'd peered into his eyes after he caught her. She cursed herself.
This is all your fault!
Maybe, Ellie chuckled.
When she looked back at him, he was still patiently watching her. "Maybe," she shrugged. "We don't really know anything."
He nodded and she closed the bathroom door, turning on the tap water to splash her face with the cold water. She tried to force the voice from her head while rubbing her face, but Ellie always won over her and Kalani stood up, glaring at herself in the mirror.
We know he was with Chidi last night.
Why did the thought bother her so much?
Because you're starting to care about him.
