" No need to be sorry. Just show up to your interviews on time, ok?" He said to me, looking as if there was a deep concern for me. "Ok.." i answered quietly. He pulled out a copy of my application, reading it over. He stared at it for quiet some time and then looked up at me. "You applied for assistant position. Is that correct?" He asked me looking slightly surprised. "Yes sir, i did." I replied giving him a glare under my bright smile. "Alright. Why did you apply to be my assistant over all of the other open positions?" He asked looking at me intently, patiently waiting for my answer. " I-I umm.." I stuttered out. I didn't have any other reason to apply except to make money. I was stumped on what to say and I knew he could see it. "You have a reason do you not.?" He said slightly frowning. "N-no sir.." My face was red with embarrassment. "I can't believe you would say that! why didn't you just make up a reason?!" I thought, beating myself up over my own stupidity. "I'm happy that you told me the truth." "W-what? Why..? I told you I didn't have a reason to apply.." "I know. I need people who I know will tell me the truth. Other people make up excuses that i've heard a million times before. You're.. different to say the least." He looked at me and grinned. "Your application will be taken into consideration. I'll call you in 3-4 business days" With that he dismissed me and I walked down the hallway towards the elevators.
As I walked past I could hear some of the employees talking about me. "Wow, i didn't think he of all people would be considered. The people before him were much more worthy of getting the position." I continued down the hallway feeling slightly self-conscious about myself. I remembered the kind eyes of my mother and father and the words they spoke to me. "Never listen to anyone who brings you down. The people you should choose are the ones who make you feel happy and loved." I took the advice of my late parents and blocked out all of their rude comments. I started thinking about the last part. "—The people you should choose are the ones who make you feel happy and loved." I thought about my best friend Akimaru, Gene, Mr. Haruki,..- "Wait! Mr. Haruki?! No, I can't think about him. I don't even know him that well! I just met him a few minutes ago." I thought to myself getting flustered. I won't deny, he's attractive, but I should managed to shake the thought from my head and before I knew it I was at the elevators. I called the elevator and waited for a few minutes. Eventually it came and I stepped inside, then pushing the button for the lobby. The elevator moved slowly down to the lobby and opened. I stepped out almost being knocked over by businessmen hurrying into the elevator. After i got myself together i walked out of the building towards where i parked my car. But to my dismay the car was GONE. I groaned and pulled out my phone to try and call a taxi. As i dialed the number my phone died, showing a battery symbol with flashing red at the bottom. "Ugh, nothing is going right today!" I mumbled to myself, not knowing how i was supposed to get home.
Just then Mr. Haruki appeared behind me. "Are you okay? you seem a bit distressed." He asked towering over me. I turned around and responded, startled by his sudden appearance. "AH.. I um.. m-my car... it's gone." My words barely audible. "And my phone is dead so.. I can't call a taxi." I said gazing up at him. "Oh no.. Well, if you would like I can bring you home." His eyes sincere. I looked away. A slight blush visible on my face. "T-thank you, I would appreciate that." I said trying my best not to stutter. "Alright let's go." He said as he grabbed my hand, leading me away from my now gone car. After a few minutes of walking we reached a VIP parking spot labeled 'CEO'. Mr. Haruki led me to the passenger side of the car and opened the door for me. After i got in he shut the door and walked around to the other side, also getting in. He crunk up the car and backed out of the parking space. "So.. what's your address?" he asked "136 Vandermort Drive" I replied calmly. "Ok. I live nearby actually." He proceeded to drive out of the parking lot and to a stoplight that turns onto a highway. "Mr. Haruki I"- i began "Just call me Atlas." he said looking at me out of the corner of his eye with a smile. "Ok.. Atlas, I want to thank you for doing this for me."
"No need to thank me silly, I'm just being nice." Atlas chuckled lightly. His laughed was deep and smooth, like music to my ears. "What kind of music do you like?" he asked me turning on the speakers. "I like this artist called 'Pierce'." "Woah, you do? I haven't met another person who likes them in ages!" Atlas said, his face beaming with happiness. "Me neither! What's your favorite song?" I asked him, happy to find someone else who liked my favorite band. "I like 'Breaking Point'. What's your favorite?" "That's my favorite too!" "That's so cool! What a coincidence." He said as we both smiled at each other and laughed.
A few minutes later after a bit more conversation we arrived at my house.
It has a modern exterior with marble pillars holding up my balcony, birch wood trees lining the gate outside, and a few weeping willow trees out by the sitting area. In the back is the hunting range and my family apple orchard which makes a little over 80 thousand per 250 acres. There is a private hot tub just for me (at the moment) in the second entertainment area and an indoor pool with a bar that has surround sound speakers in the first. My room is the master suite which contains a king-sized bed with led lights and a grey loveseat under the window near the closet. The bathroom has heated flooring, a double sink, and a shower with a 360 degree shower head. All of the guest bedrooms have a queen-sized mattress with a vanity dresser and a closet. There are also four other bathrooms for the guests, not including the half baths downstairs. the living room has a light grey tufted couch with glass legs. in front of it is an abstract coffee table and a flat-screen TV. behind it is the game and activity room where we have cards, chess, checkers, and lot of arts and crafts supplies. The kitchen has practically every appliance you can think of. A smart fridge, gas stove, and a touchscreen recipe provider to say the least. The countertop and island is a sparkling white marble with barstools seated under the island— Atlas hopped out of the car and walked briskly to the passenger side to open my door. i stepped out of the car and made my way to the front door. "Thank you, again.." i said as i walked in.
Just when i was about to close the door Atlas yelled out to me. "Rhys wait!" he said leaning out of the car window. "Hm?" I said as I slightly reopened the door. "Let's exchange numbers. If that's okay with you of course." He said staring. at me waiting for my answer. "O-oh, sure." I said speedwalking back to his car. We gave each other our phones and put our numbers in. "Thanks." said Atlas as he handed me back my phone. "See you later Rhys." "See you." I started back towards the house and he drove off. When I opened the door Gene was there with a worried look on his face. "Where were you?" "I was with my potential overseer. i'm sorry." He patted me on the back. "Its okay, i'm just glad that you're safe." I walked past him and up to my room so i could take a shower and get ready for bed.
