Varyna wandered the castle, Koray close at her side. "So, what does it take for someone to rule here?" She asked him.
"Oh, not much. The strongest and smartest creature is the ruler here." He took a step away from her. "Until you arrived, that was me."
"I'm the leader?" The word felt strange and new in her mouth.
Koray nodded with a grin. "That's how it works."
She sat. "So tell me, how have things been here?"
Koray paused. "Now that will take a while." He turned to the large black wolf, his own personal assistant. "Get us something to drink.
"Falin and Blackmane have been sending strong patrols after you. Before I found you, I saw several of these patrols near here." He admitted, accepting the drinks and gave one to Varyna. She drank thirstily, emptying the glass. "And the reward for finding The King's Mercy was a great one."
Varyna collapsed dramatically. Koray laughed wickedly and opened the gate to let the enemy's patrols in.
Varyna's eyes settled on Blackmane. 'He's returned.' Shaking off the act, Varyna stood as the gate closed. The patrols were now the ones who were trapped inside. She quickly growled at the servant. "Get ready to open the gate."
"I will rule the Banished." Varyna snarled, leaping in and starting the battle. As Varyna swiftly struck and blocked, Blackmane followed her lead.
The servant, Killer he was called, had just finished opening the gate when the two finished.
Varyna turned to Koray. "I'll let you keep this place for now. But once I want it, watch out."
Koray chuckled. "You'll never escape the patrols in the forest."
Varyna turned away, Blackmane following, and walked to the gate. "You can have a free life with me." She told Killer.
His reply was a grunt and a shake of his head.
Varyna and Blackmane walked out. She caught the scent of several patrols nearby and stiffened. "The fighting isn't over." Her voice was nearly drowned out by the closing of the gate.
"Follow my lead." Blackmane said as he wandered to the forest, clutching and pushing Varyna as if she was his prisoner.
"Start with the right, I'll start with the left patrols. Corner Falin's in the middle." And so they did, the fighting quick and silent. But Varyna couldn't shake off the feeling of being watched.
Going to the center of the forest, Varyna crouched, ready to strike once again.
Falin looked right in her direction. "Leave me," he told the patrol, who obeyed.
"I've been searching for you." Falin spoke at last. "You've been a hard one to find."
Varyna jumped at him but he slammed his paw down on her throat. "You forget I'm the faster one." He smiled. "I see you've been busy. No matter. All the patrols that saw you I've no doubt you took care of. Apart from that big oaf you lead around, none other saw you." He pushed his claws into her neck then tore her shoulder muscle before getting to her face. "And a problem no more." He stalked away, leaving Varyna to die.
But that mysterious, blue pair of eyes watched her. The last thing Varyna saw was a thick furred, white wolf standing over her.
