Roxy
I groan, pulling my knees to my chest, and roll over on my side to look at Luke. "How much longer is this going to take?"
He opens one eye sparingly to glance at me. "How many times are you going to ask me this?"
"Until you answer me."
"Ever tried being patient?"
"No."
"It's a good trait to have."
"Shut up." I rip a handful of grass blades out of the ground and throw them at him. He scrunches his nose and I pinch it. "You think you're so cute, don't you, Lukey?"
"I do," he says with a smirk.
I sigh, and push myself to my feet. "I'm checking on them. It's been a half hour already, and we haven't heard anything."
"Roxy-"
"Let's at least just see if they're dead."
I offer him a hand, raising an eyebrow. He rolls his eyes at me and grabs my hand, letting me pull him up without doing any work himself. We walk the few metres to my tent, and Luke silently undoes the complicated knot thingamabob he constructed, gesturing for me to go first.
And I do.
And I regret it.
I unzip the tent a third of the way and stick my head in. "Tell me you two have- omigoshwaitwhatareyoudoing?" I fall out of the tent and scooch away, hiding my face in the crook of my elbow. "Ew, ew, ew, ew, somebody get me some soap to wash the image of... of... that out of my eyes."
Luke crouches next to me. "What were they doing?"
"They're making out on my bed." I rub my eyes and squint up at him. "Ugh. I'm never unseeing that."
Covering his eyes with one hand, he opens the door to the tent and shouts, "Stop making out on Roxy's bed and get out of there. I mean, congratulations on making up and all but now we can't trust you two alone together."
He drops the flap like it burns his hand and looks at me, shaking his head and shuddering. I mime throwing up and we laugh.
The two sickos emerge from the tent hand in hand, Maia's face red from embarrassment and Gabe's lit up with excitement.
Gabe and Luke high five, the latter saying something along the lines of, "About time, man," to the former, and Maia slaps both on the arm.
I begin to drag Maia away to the pier to gossip, but she just has to shoot a dreamy smile Gabe's way. I groan, and have to actually drag her away from him. "Come on, there will be time for that when you're not in public."
We sit down on the end of the pier.
"So?" I snap my fingers in front of her face when she drifts off dreamily. "I'm guessing it went well?"
She smiles and grabs my arm. "Omigosh, Roxy, it was- it was great. It was incredible. It was the best thing that's ever happened to me. It was-"
"Take a breath, Mai."
She releases a breathy laugh. "Thank you for making us do that. You know, make up. Without you and Luke, I don't know if anything would've ever happened between us." Her grin widens. "Oh, Rox, when he kissed me, I can't even explain it-"
"Please don't-"
"When he started-"
"You're actually making me nauseous and you've barely said anything. Please, please, please stop before you start." I pat her hand as I remove it from my arm. "Also, I don't know where that hand has been." I pause as she laughs in embarrassment. "So are you two official now?"
