It's just another day at school for me. My name? My name is Carrie Gonzalez. I am a senior at West Tampa High School and I have an IQ of 174. However, I keep my IQ quiet due to me technically being a genius. I begin walking to my last class of the day but I begin to hear my name being called from down the hallway. I turn around to see Brian running down the hallway and I scoff. I turn around and walk away to class.
"Carrie, wait up," Brian yells.
I turn around and look at him. "What do you want Brian?"
Brian looks and says, "I was wondering if you wanted to go out on a date? With me? Tonight?"
I roll my eyes. I knew this had to be a joke. He is the biggest fuckboy in school. He ditches people like me to hang out with the school sluts. I think I'll humour him and agree just so he will leave me alone for the rest of the day.
I sigh and say, "If I agree, will you leave me alone for the rest of the day?"
Brian nods and smiles. I roll my eyes and nod in agreement. He smiles and walks away. I walk into class and see my best friend Serena. She smiles at me as I walk into class. I sit next to her and she can tell something is wrong.
"What's wrong Carrie," Serena says.
"Brian. He asked me out and kept bothering me about it. I said yes knowing it's a joke. I'm not an idiot," I say to her.
She nods, knowing how true my statement was. Class went by quickly. The bell rang and I stood up. I left the room and went outside where I saw my other best friend Maddie standing by my car. I see Brian drive by with his friends in his car. My phone rang and I saw a message from Brian. I read the message and rolled my eyes. I get in my car and so does Maddie.
"What's wrong," She asks.
I shake my head not really bothered by the fact that Brian just cancelled our date. I knew it was going to happen. I drove my friend home and we just sat there in silence. She hugged me then got out of the car and went inside. I sigh and drive home. I decided to stop at the nearby bookstore. That place makes me feel so much better. No one can bother you and it's peaceful. I park the car and head inside. I head to the nonfiction section and look around for a particular book I have been planning to buy for a while now. 'The Narrative of John Smith' by Arthur Conan Doyle. I look around for it and I finally find it through the row of books. I reach for it but then I see someone else's hand reach for it too. Both of our hands grab it and take it off the shelf. I look up and see a man who couldn't be any older than twenty.
"I'm so sorry. If you want it, you can have it," says the man. He avoids eye contact with me and I understand why. He must be shy. I'm pretty shy too. I'm very shy with everyone else other than my friends. But, for some reason, I don't feel like I need to be shy around him.
"No it's alright. There are plenty of other books I can choose from," I responded.
He smiled slightly and I smiled back. He says, "My name is Spencer Reid. What's your name?"
I smiled and said, "I'm Carrie. I haven't seen you around here before. I'm here quite a bit. Are you new around here?"
Just as he was about to answer, he looked up as someone yelled his name. "Reid, come on man! We got to go!" He looked at me seemingly apologetic.
He looks at me and says, "I'm sorry I have to go."
But before he walks away, I write down my number and hand it to him. Spencer walks away and I just look at his figure leaving from the store. I smile and decide to go home for the night.
