MISSION ONE

a fairytale: the lonely prince and his only constant

—————

"Hey Alver!"

A handsome blond who sat at the most inconspicuous corner of the room, flinched in surprise. He wasn't expecting to be called upon right up his face at that, and quite loudly as well. Only the book he was holding saved him from a very embarrassing situation.

Alver placed it down, meeting the gazes of his classmates while smiling politely. "Is something the matter?"

Their excited chatters filled his ears. The smile on his face almost turned into a grimace.

"We need an extra player for our soccer game! Wanna join in?" The guy with spiky black hair chirped.

"How about a study group at my house?" A brown-haired guy who's noticeably shorter than the first piped in.

"Let's go to a karaoke bar later! Well? What do you think?" The pudgy guy exclaimed, eyes lighting up full of hopeful expectations.

Hope he's about to crush and expectations he couldn't met.

Alver's fists clenched out of their sight, while his eyes went crestfallen and his lips curled at the right angle, perfectly painting a regretful smile.

"I apologize," he spoke amicably, tone tinting with just amount of disappointment. "But I have some matters to attend to later. Thank you for the offer though."

Spiky clutched his head in vain, internally crying at the respectful way the blond did to reject their invitations. They couldn't even get mad at this point!

"Dammit! Rejected again!" He could only bellow dramatically.

"Crap...! Isn't this already the tenth time in a row?" Brown-haired guy cried out, producing a notepad out of nowhere. He made a show of comically adding a line to a tally entitled, 'Operation: Wooing the Prince to be Popular with the Girls too!'.

They were keeping count...? The so-called prince blinked. Still...

"He's even harder to conquer than most girls!" The last guy stated. He pumped his fists as if he couldn't hold his feelings in, a lone tear made its way to his cheek.

And... wasn't that the truth???

These trio of friends had planned to befriend the sunshine incarnate prince with the dreamy blue eyes (it's the girls' words, not theirs), but it turned out that he was much more unconquerable than the girls themselves! What's with that!

What would happen to their dreams of a rose-filled high school life??? It... felt so out of reach now!!!

Meanwhile, the unconquerable guy in question was seriously contemplating what he heard. Shall he take that as a compliment...? Oh well, it doesn't matter. He shrugged it off as he picked his book up.

"That's so cold, dude. Not cool at all." Spiky-haired admonished with an exaggerated frown.

"Alver," Brown-haired called out. "It's already been a month since we've all become classmates and there's no progress at all with our friendship! We should get to know one another! Don't you think so too?" He passionately declared before sighing loudly.

"You may look like a sunshine incarnate, but you sure do act like the moon. Just what's with this contrast?!"

The last interjected his friend's monologue, eyes solemnly closing. "Stop it. There's no need to elaborate it further." He faux sniffed. "He's not willing to hear us out at all!"
