Summer of 62 has arrived and I was ready to get out of this bumhole that we call school. It was sad because I was leaving for high school this summer. But all the memories I made will still stay with me. When the bell rang and class ended, I quickly grabbed my books and ran out of class. As I headed down the stairs, this cute boy with light brown hair passed by. I always liked him but never knew his name. I know, how stupid was I not to know his name? For three whole years, I've liked this boy but never got the courage to tell him. Yes Yes I'm a big chicken and I know I only live once and should just shoot my shot, but he is the most popular kid in the entire school! You think an average girl like me can pull the most popular kid! Anyways, I headed down the hallway to my locker. I started to empty it.
"Y/N!!" My brother Ham yells.
"Oh hi," I say surprised as all he runs to me with all his friends.
"The boys are coming with us on the bus and hanging"
"Oh ok, just give me a second" I quickly grab the rest of my books and stuff them into my bag as quickly as possible so I don't leave them waiting.
"Ok let's go," I say standing up and wiping the dust off my new dress.
2 weeks later.....
Today, I had nothing to do. I woke up at 9:00 and went downstairs to eat breakfast.
"Hey," I said to Ham.
"Hi," he sighs.
"So... what are you doing today"
"Nothing, I'm just going to the fields...wanna come?" He said stuffing his food in his mouth.
"Uhm sure but you swear your friends won't get mad?"
"Swear."
"Okay then,"
I quickly changed out of my pajamas and got myself ready. I put on some old jeans and tucked my shirt into them. I quickly ran downstairs and met Ham at the door. He threw me a glove and we left. We walked to the back of the drugstore where I guess the boys meet up before they go to the field.
"Hey guys," Ham says.
"Whose the chick Porter," One boy with glasses says.
"My sister," He says looking at me.
"Oh, Y/n," I say nervously. They all introduce themselves to me. (You all know their names)
"So what is she doing here?" A boy named Benny says.
"She gonna play baseball with us"
"Are you joking, girls don't play baseball!" Yeah Yeah says and all the boys start laughing.
"Hell yeah, they can!" I yelled.
"Look, y/n is good.... and she's my sister so she can play"
"Fine," Squints says "but if you lyin-"
"Shut up squints!" Says benny.
The boys start walking to the fields. I was walking alone and then Benny came up to me.
"Hey," He said
"Hi"
"Ive seen you in school. You were in the science and Math class right?"
"Yeah"
"I'm sorry about the others. They can get weird you know- around girls"
"yeah sure I understand," I say looking at the ground.
We get to the field and everyone gets ready to play and sets themselves on the field. I stood there not knowing what position they wanted me to play.
"Y/n!" Yelled Ham. I looked up from the shoes.

"Go to left field where Smalls is!"
"Wait what?!" Yells smalls.
"I'm sorry, We can rotate positions," I said feeling guilty.
"Ok that's fine" He smiles and heads to the dugout to watch
Kenny pitches the ball to Benny who hits it straight and hard to the outfield. I keep my eyes on the ball. I hear the ball land in my glove and quickly through straight to first base just in time to get Benny out from the first base. All the boys look at me in shock while Ham just smiled.
