His eyes fill with disbelief, then excitement, then slight terror. "Famous?! No way!" I sigh. This is going to be a long week running the radio show without him.
"You're shitting me right?"
"I'm not, sadly.." I guess now's as good a time as any to tell you, whoever you are, that I love Dan. I have ever since that day almost 6 years ago. Or in Dan's case, 2 days ago. "We're on YouTube."
"YouTube? I haven't even uploaded one vid- well, I'm assuming that's not the case." He scratches at the hospital band on his wrist. "What are we going to do?"
"I don't know..." I say, and then a sickening idea comes to mind.
I could tell the most terrible lie.
Don't you even dare.
Even if it's all I've wanted for years?
You could never take advantage of him like that.
The doctor clears her throat, "Daniel isn't to return until tomorrow. You should go home and gather a change of clothing." Then she leans close to me and whispers, "I'm not supposed to tell you this, but the lab has been working on a type of medication that stimulates memory. I would be willing to sneak some of it for you, but it's risky on both of our parts." She glances left and right, "I could lose my job, and in this stage of its development, there are symptoms. However, it's a chance result which of these symptoms that Daniel would receive. You do not have to make a decision right now, but whenever you have, give the hospital a call and ask for Dr. McKinney."
I'm dumbfounded. Someone with this authority is willing to lose her job for a few British boys. "T-Thank you, I will certainly consider it."
She smiles warmly. "Now, please, go home and get some rest. We'll see you tomorrow to sign your friend out."

"Hey, Cat."
"How's he doing?"
"He's allowed to come home today, but it doesn't seem like any memory has returned."
"I'm so sorry that I'm away right now, because if I wasn't I'd be there."
"It's alright. The only ones who've visited since I was there were PJ and Chris. His parents refused to see him for some reason..."
"He needs his friends' support. I can't believe his parents refused, though."
"Yeah. I have to go now, the doctor just told me he woke up," I sigh, "still sleeping in, just like before."
Cat chuckles lightly on the other end, "Okay. I'd tell you to pass on a message but he has no idea who I am anymore, probably. Wishing you guys the best."
"I'll call you again sometime soon." I hang up.
I wonder what it will be like living with 2009 Dan, as Dr. McKinney leads me to his hospital room.
As we approach the room, I hear Disenchanted by My Chemical Romance playing faintly. My heart stings again. The band was still together 6 years ago. Out of all the truths he'll be exposed to over time, this will be one of the most shattering.
"I hate the ending myself, but it started with an alright scene..."
I step into the room and Dan smiles, reaching for the MP3 on the bedside table to turn down the music. "Hey," he says breathily, causing my heart to flutter a bit. I slightly scowl down at it.
"Ready to go home?" I smile back and hold out the plastic bag with his everyday ensemble of black clothing.
"Absolutely," he stands up and stretches, "but I have one question."
"What is it?"
"Do we have hair straighteners at home?" he inquires, pulling at bits of his hobbit hair.
I laugh slightly. Typical. "Of course we do, and you can use them right when we get there."
"Thanks Philly," he steps forward and wraps his arms around me before taking the plastic bag and walking into the bathroom.

Is this some sort of joke?
Five minutes later, Dan walks out of the bathroom, trying to smooth down his curls. "Do I always wear this much black?"
"Uh, yeah, I can-"
"I like it." He smiles. "Let's go home."
