Chapter 5
Terrence’s Big DaySeptember 7, 2012

Terrence’s Apartment
6:33 AMTerrence woke up this morning with his ankle wrapped up. It was starting to hurt when he rotated it. He didn’t know if that was a good or bad thing. He limped out of bed; that’s a bad thing. He did the routine the doctor told him to do in order to relieve the stress off his ankle. For about twenty minutes he could walk on it, but could he play on it? He got his clothes ready to be ironed when he saw an envelope from another school and another from a sports magazine wanting to do an interview. He reached for the phone to call Richard.
"Hello, is Richard home? Hey, Rich, didn't recognize your voice. Hey, do you have Will's number? Nothing, got a social studies question for him. 542-5555. Thanks." He hung up to call Will.
"Hello, good morning, is Will there? Thank you. Hey, Will, it’s Terrence. What's going on? Yeah, nothing much. Um, can you come over before you head to school? Considering what we was talking about yesterday."

Jacob’s Apartment
6:51 AMBrandon was up, getting ready to leave without waking up anybody. He kissed his daughter goodbye and quietly walked out. While on the elevator, he pulled out his cell phone to make a call.
"Yo, it’s me. I'm coming to meet up, okay?" He hung up.
Jacob woke up a few minutes later to get ready for school. He had a bad dream, mostly of Ice, still shaken of up by what happened to him. Time to get ready for class. It was Friday, and payday in his mind. His sister woke up and came into his room.
"Na-na-na-na-na, you can't get me." She ran into her mother’s room and jumped on her bed.
"Mommy! Mommy! Where's Daddy?"
Their mother yawned. "I don't know, honey. Maybe he went to the store." She rolled out of bed to get Brandi ready for school while Jacob got his clothes out.
"Mom, you takin’ a shower now?"
"No, I’ll wait ‘til you leave. Did you see Brandon leave this morning?"
"No, I just woke up, Mom. I might have heard the door close, but woke up from a nightm—I mean dream."
"You had a nightmare?"
"No, Mom, just a weird dream," Jacob said in a slightly defensive tone. Jacob used to have night terrors as a child. He didn't know what they meant and thought they were real.
"Well, hun, if they get bad, just call the doctor, okay?"
"Okay, Mom. I'm going to be out real late. I might stay at Trevor's house."
"Okay, it’s the weekend. Just be careful."
Jacob got ready to hop in the shower and closed the bathroom door. The Block
Marcus’s Apartment
6:57 AMMarcus was up and at the table, eating breakfast with his father.
"So, son, how you think you did on the field yesterday?"
"Did good, sir. Covered my quarterback well. He only got hit once."
"Ain’t once one too many?” Marcus’ father chuckles. “I remember when I was out there on the field, nobody could touch me. Boy, my jersey was always white like toothpaste." He got up to do his touchdown dance and signature victory stance.
Marcus laughed out loud. "It was white ‘cause you didn't play!"
"Man, please. Give me ten years, I’ll be with Ray Lewis and them."
"Haha! Okay, Pop, if you say so."
"When’s your homecoming, son?"
"They don't do that here, Pop. Just JV versus Varsity. Then freshman varsity versus senior varsity."
"That all? Aw, man, they need a homecoming. Get the girls in the skirts to get the team fired up."
"We play music to get the players charged up, Pop."
Marcus’ father laughed. "What, some old school music or something?"
"Oh, no way. None of that dinosaur music. We play rap music. That's why they like me and Rex. We both reppin’ the down south."
"Is that right? Well, just be safe out there, and take off some heads," his father said while getting up to go to work.
"Will do, sir. Later, Pops."
