Aki looked speechlessly at the floating holographic screen displayed in front of him. After being disoriented from moving from one place to another at light speed, this was the first thing he saw when he opened his eyes.
In fact, he hadn't even had time to properly understand that he'd died before he'd landed himself in such an insane situation as this.
Aki blinked as the holographic screen disappeared in front of him and his view was taken up by his surroundings. Currently, he was sitting in a small commercial airline with around 30 passenger seats. His own seat was beside a circular window at the back of the plane with no one sitting beside him; and glancing outside Aki saw a large expanse of ocean and a clear night sky that didn't even hint at future turbulence.
Turning away from the window, Aki then slowly thought back to the information on the holographic display. There should be other system players appearing soon he believed. The players who he couldn't under any circumstance have find out that he wasn't an original of this world; but was instead like them. Aki didn't even want to think of the consequences he'd face if they found out.
In fact, although Aki's limited edition system seemed like a good thing by awarding double points, it really was in reality a black pit in the wrong hands. It was basically forcing players to work alone, or find a way to not raise suspicion whilst trying to integrate as an NPC with the other players as they tried to solve the side-task. Side-tasks being the only way to gain points which were likely vital for later stages.
After all, a single player only had one body, but a team of people could gather clues and think of solutions more quickly. There was some truth to the saying 'strength in numbers'.
After a little more thought, Aki found a simple solution on how to figure out who the other players were. Standing up, he pretended to stretch his legs before stepping out and walking to the front of the plane. He had the idea that if system players were to appear they just couldn't be dropped between the isles to stand waiting for the plane to crash, hence logically they must have seats in the airline. Glancing around as if he was just looking casually, Aki noted down the empty seats.
There were eleven empty spaces, including the one beside his own. Aki didn't know if they were going to be eleven system players or less, but because he now had a basic layout of the plane, he could later see who joined.
After doing a lap, Aki returned to his seat and calmly started to rummage around his things. Tucked under the seat in front was a shoulder bag. Taking it out, Aki carefully inspected the things inside to see if he could find more information on his NPC. Luckily, no one on this plane knew Aki's NPC so wouldn't be able question him for acting unusual thus raising suspicion towards him.
The bag had nothing unusual in it, but also nothing that revealed much except that NPC Aki seemed to be loner and a studious student. There was a powered down phone that when turned on only had an unfortunate five contacts, three of them family members and another one for work and the last one to a 'best friend'. There was also some coloured pens and highlighters, a thick text-book on finance densely packed with notes, a passport, and a wallet with some money and a student ID. Tucked inside was also a small photograph of a family portrait.
After looking at everything once more, Aki then put everything away, before wondering how much time had passed. He had no watch to keep track, and his phone only said it was around ten in the morning when he turned it on. Just then his stomach made a quiet rumbling sound and broke him out of his contemplative mood. Putting his hand on it, he frowned. That's right, before he died he planned on using that premium meat to make something delicious to eat and hence he hadn't even eaten lunch.
Shaking his head Aki decided to take the rest of the time until the other players arrived to eat since there wasn't much else to do whilst waiting. Looking around, he was wondering where the flight attendant was when his line of sight was un-expectedly blocked.
Blinking in surprise, his eyes slowly looked upwards. Long legs, a trim waist, tall height and a handsome face. The man had dark eyes behind gold rimmed glasses, red lips that curled in the corner charmingly, and pale skin. His hair was also neatly combed away from his forehead.
Still blinking, Aki could only think that this person was just too good-looking, especially when he smiled! But...his smile was also very odd and Aki couldn't help but internally feel like this man was a little off.
The man didn't say anything as he settled into the seat beside him snapping Aki out of his trance. It seemed like NPC Aki already had a seat-mate, though why he only came now...Aki looked using the corner of his eye. Could it be he was in the toilet this whole time?
Before his mind could wander Aki turned his attention away and began focusing on locating some help. Luckily a middle-aged flight attendant noticed him and walked over with a polite smile. It was a bit awkward to be talking over his seat-mate who had pulled out a thick book and was silently reading but Aki was able to enquire about some snacks and water.
The flight attendant was quick to provide some packets of complementary peanuts and a small bottle of water. Whilst not a meal, Aki quickly put a handful in his mouth chewing and looking at the scenery outside once again.
Time dragged on until it was the allotted time for the system players to finally make an appearance.
