Mugman's POV

I woke up way earlier than usual. I also didn't know what room I was in. I then remembered that I'm staying at my parents' house to take care of my little siblings while our parents are on a business trip. Oh yeah I forgot to mention my parents are on a business trip. (Goddammit Mugs stop breaking the fourth wall-) Wait, what the hell was that- (MUGS JUST NARRATE THE FUCKING THING-) OK JEEZ ASH STFU I CAN'T NARRATE IT IF YOU KEEP INTERRUPTING ME- Anyways I walked downstairs to make Lilith breakfast. Mirage and Andie won't wake up for another hour, since they don't have to go to school this early. I made some toast and just put hummus and jam next to it so Lilith can choose what she wants. Lilith finally came down in her uniform and we both started eating breakfast. I was tired as hell, but still walked her to the bus stop. We talked for a while on our way there. "Thanks for walking with me Mugs, I know you and Cups work until like 1 a.m." Lilith said as we reached the bus stop. "No problem! I know you're used to someone walking with you, so of course I'd come." I replied. We were about to talk some more when a familiar voice said "MUUUUUGS LILIIIIIIITH" It was Anna, Lilith's best and technically only friend. (Damn you didn't have to call her out like that-) And you're telling me to stop breaking the fourth wall-? Whatever. Anna and Lilith started talking, after Anna basically suffocated us in a hug. Anna later dragged Lilith away to make an attempt at talking to people. Oh yeah I also forgot that it's the first day of school- (Goddammit Mugs) I'm tired ok- Anna and Lilith were talking to a girl with brown hair, and I realized something. Phoenix Wright is here. Phoenix Wright. The Ace A-Fucking-Ttorney. I tried not to fanboy, even though my literal idol is right here with his child, and I'm here with my little sister. I should keep calm. He's a person with his own life. I shouldn't bother him. The bus finally came, everyone got on, and I went home to sleep. I knew Cup would take Mirage and Andie to their bus, so I just slept until I got a call. It was from mom. I did my best to not sound like I had just woken up. "Hello...?" I said. "We just got a call from Lilith's school. One of the students were murdered." My eyes widened, panic setting in. "Is Lilith ok?" I said as I quickly got decent clothes. "Apparently it was this kid named Eric Peterson, they still don't know how exactly he was murdered. However, Lilith was found at the crime scene. She's being taken in for questioning now." I froze. "They think she did it? She would never do something like that!" I said. "I know, all we can do is hope she's proven innocent." Mom said. "I've gotta go, I need to process all of this. I love you, mom." "Alright. I love you too, Mugs. Be careful." "Yup! Bye!" I hung up and grabbed Maya. It's been five years, yet I'm still not used to putting her in my eye socket. "Mugman, what are you doing? I'm only 60% charged." She said. "No time to ask questions. We're going to Lilith's school." I said in my head. I ran all the way to the school. If that's not a workout, I don't know what is. Especially in the end of summer with a binder on. Maya had gone on the internet and searched up news articles to learn more about the murder. I got to the school, and there were a bunch of police officers. I didn't even know what I planned on doing, I just knew I wanted to prove my sister's innocence. "Whoa there, pal. You can't come in right now. This is a crime scene." I detective in a green suit said. I panicked. Why did I come here, anyway? I can't do anything except watch and see what happens. I started to leave, when I heard "Come on, Nick!" "Maya, we don't have the time for this. We need to actually investigate." "He might help us!" It was Phoenix Wright, with Maya Fey. Maya was dragging Phoenix over to me. "Hey! You're the guy that's Lilith's brother, right? We're gonna defend her! Wanna help?" Maya asked me. Phoenix looked at me and Maya and said. "Maya, you can't just go up to people like that! I'm sorry, she's like that. If you did want to help, we would gladly accept." I was shocked. The Phoenix Wright wants my help? "Uh, I'll help! I... I know my sister. She would never hurt anyone!" I said. "Great! Let's go!" Fey said. We went inside, thanks to Phoenix explaining that he's letting me help. The detective, who's name is apparently Gumshoe, also gave us the autopsy report. I asked Mr. Wright if I could see the autopsy report, and read it on our way to the crime scene, which was on the second floor next to the stairs. The victim, Eric Peterson, died today at 1:35 p.m. due to a broken neck, however he also was found with multiple stab wounds, one on his stomach and two on his chest. His body was found on a noose hanging next to the stairs that led to the third floor. We finally arrived at the crime scene, and it was brutal. The noose had blood underneath it. There was a bloody red bow on the ground next to it. It made me sick trying to imagine what it looked like with the body. We turned to the stairs and saw blood on a couple of steps. Once we were sure we looked at everything we could, we headed to the Detention Center to talk to Lilith. We got there, and she wouldn't answer anything Mr. Wright asked. "Mr. Wright, can I try? She might answer me, since I'm her brother." I asked. "Um, sure." He replied. I tried talking to Lilith. "Lilith, we need to know know your side of things so we can prove you innocent in court." After a few moments of silence, she spoke. "I don't like defense attorneys." Mr. Wright had a confused look on his face. "Lilith, I'm being serious. That guy was innocent, or at least he was proven innocent. We can't say he's guilty. That also has no relevance to this case. Just please answer the questions. You are innocent, right?" "Of course! I wouldn't kill anyone!" "Alright, then we're here to prove you innocent." There were a few more minutes of silence. "Fine. I'll talk." I smiled and moved out of the way so Mr. Wright could talk to her. "Lilith, what's your alibi?." "During my free period, I was in a classroom on the third floor with four other people, Eric, Sayori, and Monika. We were talking about making a literature club. It was almost time to go back to classes, so Eric and Sayori walked out. I've never been on the third floor before, so I got lost. The power was also out at the time, so some hallways with no windows were extremely dark. I finally made it to the stairs, but halfway down I slipped on something and fell. That's when a teacher, Ms. Parmesan, walked in." Lilith answered. "Ok. Does anyone you've mentioned wear a red bow?" Mr. Wright asked. "Yes. Sayori does." She replied. "Alright. Who is Ms. Parmesan?" "She's mine and Monika's literacy teacher." "Alright. I think that's all to ask about. Thank you." The next day, we went into court. All I could think about was why would anyone falsely accuse my sister? After Mr. Wright and the prosecutor, who was none other than Miles Edgeworth, said they were ready, Edgeworth started his opening statement. "The defendant, Lilith Garcia, (shush she needs a last name) is said to have murdered Eric Peterson. Today we'll be asking the person who reported this crime for their side of the story. The prosecution calls the witness, Cheetah Parmesan." Ms. Parmesan came to the stand. "Would the witness state her name and occupation?" "Did you not just announce my name, honey?" "Will the witness just state her name and occupation?" "There's no need if we all know who I am." "NAME. AND. OCC. U. PAT. I. ON." "That wasn't a grammatically correct statement, was it? That was also an incomplete sentence." "Mmrph-" "Alright. If it is really this important, I'm Cheetah Parmesan. I'm a language arts teacher at There High School." (That's not a reference at aaaaaaaaaaaall) Mr. Wright was right, Edgeworth does have terrible luck with getting people to tell him their name. The witness began her testimony. "I was on the third floor to get some papers from another teacher. The power went out at 1:20 p.m., and came back on at 1:40 p.m.. The cameras were also disabled as well. I was on the second floor by 1:37 p.m., and saw that girl next to the body at exactly 1:45 p.m.." Ms. Parmesan finished her testimony. It was time for Mr. Wright to cross examine. "Hold it right there! Why would you specifically state that the cameras were out, and how would you know that they were out?" The witness looked shocked, but kept a calm stance. "Objection! That is in no way relevant to the case at hand." "Objection! The witness had no way of knowing the cameras were down, and had no reason to know or state that she knows." I was in awe. Mr. Wright is amazing at this! Well, I already knew that. But I get to watch him in court with front row seats! Literally! "Order! Order in the court!" The judge said. "Witness, do you have any explanation as to how you know the cameras were down?" The witness thought for a second, then said "Yes, I do. On my way back down, I had went into the security office to have a chat with someone. They then told me how the cameras were in fact down." Mr. Wright already saw something wrong. "Hold it! Exactly what time did you talk with this person in the security room?" "Um, I'm sure it was around 1:20 p.m.." Mr. Wright looked like he was thinking for a second, then pressed her harder. "Ms. Parmesan, did you know that the security person was actually missing? Anna Clarke, the woman in the office that day, was last seen at 1:15 p.m. on that day by a student passing by, just five minutes before you claim to have talked with her, and before the power went out." The witness seemed a little angry at Mr. Wright, and everyone in the courtroom was shocked, even Edgeworth. "O-order! Order! Mr. Wright, what are you getting at, exactly?" The judge asked. "I'm saying that Ms. Parmesan might have something to do with the power and the security guard. However, something else feels off." "Oh? What would that be?" "Ms. Parmesan made a slip-up. She claims to have been down on the second floor at 1:37. However, the victim was killed at 1:35, and his body was displayed. This would mean that you, Ms. Parmesan, saw the killer display their victim. Or, you were the killer yourself." "Objection! That autopsy report is outdated, Wright. The new report states that the victim died at around 1:38." Edgeworth said with a smirk. "Dammit, I can't think of anything else." Mr. Wright said. I can't let it end like this! I have to speak up. "I would also like to call a witness. The defense calls Monika Greens to the stand." Ash wtf why the hell is her last name Greens- (Shush stop breaking the fourth wall and her eyes are green so stfu) Monika entered the courtroom and started giving her testimony. "I was talking to Lilith while walking to the classroom with her. On our way, we stopped by Mrs. Clarke, the security lady. That was at exactly 1:15 p.m.. The power went off at exactly 1:20 p.m.. Eric and Sayori were already in the classroom at the time, and we just continued to set things up for the literature club, which we were planning for. Later we started going to our next period. Sayori and Eric went together, Lilith went by herself, and I went by myself. On my way back to class, I ran into Ms. Parmesan. We left the room at 1:33 p.m.." She ended it. "Hold it! If Sayori went with Eric, shouldn't she be a prime suspect?" "Um, I don't know where she went. She ran off, not even her parents know where she is. She also has her phone turned off." Monika said. What is it with all these missing person cases? "Mr. Wright, we've got the evidence to prolong the trial until at least tomorrow!" I said with excitement. "We do?" He asked in confusion. I pushed the bow towards him. He then realized what I was getting at. "Objection! Sayori ran off, but not before she got into a fight with someone." He held up the bloody bow. "How does a bow prove this, exactly?" The judge asked. "This is Sayori's bow. There's blood on it, and the hair in it hints towards the bow being pulled out." "Objection! That is not relevant to the case at hand." "Objection! I'm sorry to burst your bubble Edgeworth, but I'm afraid it is. Eric had died instantly, meaning that he couldn't have possibly ripped the bow out. Who else could have ripped it out, then? It's impossible to know unless Sayori is present." Mr. Wright was able to figure all of that out just by looking at a bow! "Objection! This is all nonsense, Wright. It's all meaningless." "Objection! This does have meaning. Sayori had to have been separated from Eric for this to occur. It's impossible for this trial to continue without Sayori testifying." There was a lot of chatter in the courtroom. "Order! Order! I will have order! Mr. Wright has a point. A search team will go out to try and find Miss Sayori. Court is Adjourned." We exited the courtroom and went into a defendant lobby. "That was amazing, Mr. Wright!" I said with excitement. "Really? I was honestly pulling most of it out of my ass." I was shocked. He was so confident in what he was saying, or at least it seemed that way. We turned to Lilith. She looked kind of upset. "Sorry, Mr. Wright. For not answering earlier." She said. "Huh? Oh, it's fine, really. I'm just nervous about the trial tomorrow. We need to get as much evidence as possible." He said as he turned to me. I nodded and said "Then I guess we better get going." We left and went back to the school. We investigated the stairs this time, and found a piece of ceramic on the ground. "Mr. Wright, I think this proves that Lilith fell down the stairs." I said. He agreed. We went up the stairs, and found something that looks like blood. It also looks like it was smeared a little bit. There was also blood on the floor, but it was such a little amount that it was hard to notice. "We'll have to submit this to the police to get it tested, to see if it matches the victim's." Mr. Wright said. I nodded in agreement, and we quickly went to the Police Department. Once we gave the blood samples to Gumshoe, we went back to the school to investigate more. We went upstairs and checked the security guard room. We checked everywhere inside the room. That's when we opened the storage closet. Anna Clarke was in there with tape over her mouth and her hands and feet tied together. We quickly pulled her out and untied her, then we ripped the tape off. "Ow!" She said. "Sorry-" I replied. "Who might you two be?" She asked. "I'm A lawyer, I'm defending Lilith Garcia for the murder of Eric Peterson." Mr. Wright said. "I'm helping him, not that much, but helping, heh." I said awkwardly. "Well, I can give you some information on why I was in that closet, in case that helps." She said. "Yes, please. That would be really helpful." Mr. Wright said. "Cheetah Parmesan, a language arts teacher, came in and quickly covered my mouth with tape. She tied my hands and feet together, then threw me into the closet. Through the crack under the door, I could see her disabling the cameras. Later, the power went out. That's all I can remember that happened." I noted some of the stuff down. Apparently I can just pull a notebook out of my ass because plot armor. (Shush) "It seems like this is all we can do." Mr. Wright said. We went to Wright & Co. Law Offices. I pulled my notebook out and started plotting what we know so far. "So the four people were in the classroom until 1:33 p.m.. When they left, Sayori and Eric left together, while the other two went in different directions. 13 minutes before, Ms. Parmesan locked Ms. Clarke in the storage closet of the security office. Sayori and Eric were separated between 1:33 and 1:38. During that time, something happened to Sayori, and she went missing, though more than likely she ran off. At 1:45, Lilith slipped on some blood, most likely the victim's, and fell halfway down the stairs. That's when Ms. Parmesan called the police." I said. "Alright. I think this entire trial is riding on whether or not Sayori is found and able to testify. That's all we can hope for." Mr. Wright said. The next day came by quickly. We entered the courtroom, and Edgeworth gave his opening statement. "In yesterday's trial, we learned that two things occurred behind the scenes. One is that Ms. Parmesan might have something to do with the power and Ms. Clarke's disappearance. The other is that Sayori and Eric were separated right before the murder. We still currently don't know were Sayori is. However, Ms. Clarke has been found and agreed to testify. The prosecution calls Anna Clarke to the stand." Ms. Clarke came in and started her testimony. "I was just sitting in the Security Office, doing what I usually do. Monika and three other kids came in to say hi for a little while at about 1:15. They left, and Cheetah Parmesan came in and put tape over my mouth. Before I could fight her, she then tied my hands and feet together, then threw me in the storage closet. I then could see her disabling the cameras and power through the cracks on the side and underneath the door." Dammit, that's the exact same thing that she told us yesterday! There's nothing to pick apart. Even Mr. Wright can't think of anything. Is this the end? I'm sorry, Lilith. We stood there looking defeated, when Gumshoe suddenly came in. "Sorry we're late! We've found her!" He said, as a girl with short coral pink hair came in. She was Sayori. Sayori came to the stand and began her testimony. "I was walking to the classroom with Monika, Eric, and Lilith. We said hi to Ms. Clarke, the security person on our way there. The power went out five minutes afterwards, but we continued to talk. We all left the room at 1:33. I walked with Eric, and Monika and Lilith went somewhere else. Eric and I ran into Ms. Parmesan, and she asked me to get her some papers. I went to get them, leaving Eric behind. On my way back, I saw Ms. Parmesan stabbing Eric. I dropped the papers and tried to run. However, she grabbed my bow in a rush to try and stop me. I just continued running down the stairs." She finished her testimony. "Hold it!" Mr. Wright said. "Where did you drop the papers?" He asked. "I dropped them on the landing. There was a lot of blood on there." She added to her testimony. "Objection! There were no papers when the investigation started, meaning this testimony is faulty." Edgeworth stated. "Objection! This can prove that the papers were in fact there." Mr. Wright said, as he pulled out the bag we put the piece of ceramic in. "This is a chip from Ms. Garcia's head, as she's made of ceramic. The papers were on the landing, and when she ran down the stairs, she slipped on the papers and fell, causing her head to be chipped. Ms. Parmesan then removed the papers from the stairs before the police arrived." Mr. Wright said with a smug look. There was once again a lot of chatter. "Order! Order! Mr. Wright, what would the motive be to remove these papers?" The judge asked. "The motive? Uh-" Mr. Wright stammered. I spoke up. "The motive is so we couldn't figure this out. If the papers were left on the stairs, we would know that someone had to get papers for a teacher. That would completely blow the whole thing." I said. "Objection! What's the motive for killing Mr. Peterson in the first place, then?" Edgeworth asked. "It was to frame Monika." Mr. Wright said. "After looking at it a little more, I realized that The Greens family had been rivals with the Parmesan family for years. Ms. Parmesan wanted to ruin their reputation by framing Monika. However, when she heard someone coming down the stairs, she called the police on the wrong person." He said. The Gallery started talking again. The judge hit his pallet thing. "Outstand performance as usual, Mr. Wright." He said. "Thank you, sir." Mr. Wright replied. "I declare the Defendant Lilith Garcia Not Guilty." He said. We went back into the lobby, and Lilith ran and gave us both a hug. "Thank you!" She said. Me and Mr. Wright both just laughed nervously. Sayori came in and congratulated us on clearing Lilith's name and arresting Ms. Parmesan. We left the courtroom. Before Mr. Wright left, I thanked him for helping my sister. He just said "You're welcome." And we parted ways.
