I walk towards the studio, on the phone. "Okay Astrid. Okay, okay calm down. I'll come right after work alright? No-- I'm sorry I can't afford to miss another day."

Astrid sniffles on the other end of the phone. "I really thought that he was the one. I can't believe this." She mutters. I hear her flop onto her bed.

"Yeah yeah I get it. Look I'm at work now so I'll call you later, when I'm on my break, to check up on you. If I can't make it by 4 I'll send Esi over." I say calmly, standing outside the small studio that I co-run with my friend Carlos.

"Your the best Jamie.. I don't know how your still single." She replies, letting out a weak laugh.

"I'm just waiting for the right someone to come along." I say with a small smile as I enter the studio. "Look I got to go alright?"

"Love ya Jamie, have a good day." Astrid says in a small voice.

"Love you too Asteroid, don't go crazy on the ice cream." I reply, hanging up the phone. I walk into my office and sit down, looking at the offers to use the studio.

One in Particular stood out to me. Benjamin Alexio, age 27, wanting to use it for recording what he hopes to be a big hit. He added a clip of him singing this song and I was immediately entranced. I had to get him in here and hear this in person.

I get up, leaving my office and go over to Carlos' part of the studio. The recording studio. Hes in the small booth in front of the soundproof room, working the soundboard. I wait patiently until he's done.

Eventually he turns around on his swivel chair and smiles. "aye!" He exclaims happily. "When did you get here? I'm about to wrap up with these guys and get their final payment. Its their last day."

"I got here like 20 minutes ago Carlos, you were just too zoned out to notice." I reply rolling my eyes. "Anyways do we have a book next week? I found this guy and he's really good."

"No, I don't believe so." He mutters, thinking about it. "Yeah no we don't. The people that were supposed to book cancelled."

"Gotcha, I'm gonna go tell him he got the spot. Should I call or email?"

"Email is best, I'm gonna need you for cleanup in like 20 minutes." Carlos says dismissively, turning back to the soundboard, adding some last minute sounds as the crew inside the room begin to pack up their instruments.

I nod vaguely, knowing that he's not paying attention to me anymore. I head back to my office and sit down, going to email this Benjamin person, and think of a response, then I start typing.

Dear Benjamin,
Due to a recent opening in our schedule, we would love for you to come in next week to record your song. If you wouldn't mind, could you please send back a schedule of exactly when you would like to come In, (times and specific days) we can work with you to put together your song!

Sincerely,
Jamie & Carlos
First try recording studios

I sit back and quickly read over the short message before hitting send and then checking the time. I still have ten minutes before Carlos needs me so I start working on some old paperwork, that probably should have been done two weeks prior by Carlos, but I don't mind doing it. It's something that I can zone out too. I check the time again. I get up and go help Carlos pick up the mess that the last clients left behind. I don't mind picking up either, but Carlos keeps complaining. I guess one of us has to be the more grounded one. Carlos' dream was to produce music, mine was to run a business. So we put our heads together and came up with First Try Recording studios, where young talents and singers  can come in and try their shot at producing their own music. That's why its called First Try. We've become quite a hit recently as well. I handle most of the paperwork since Carlos slacks off on that, but he's amazing at making the most mediocre artists sound professional. It's amazing. I look down at my phone and see an email notification, probably Benjamin.

I quickly finish cleaning up the mess and go back to the office, opening up the email on my computer. I was right, its from Benjamin.

Dear Jamie + Carlos,
Thank you for taking me on, you won't be disappointed. As far as scheduling goes, I was hoping to come in maybe noon-two pm Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. I can't do Tuesdays because of personal things, but other than that I'm free. Oh! And please call me Ben!

-Ben

I feel a shiver down my spine. That nickname was so familiar. I shake it off. Weird deja Vu. I roll my chair back, leaning out the door. "Carlos! We got our next booking!"
