Stand by me

Noctis Lucis Caelum x Reader.

I was sitting at the edge of the cliff overhanging Insomnia. Here, there was an absolutely incredible view of the capital. By night, its lights enable people to not lose themselves despite the enormity of the city and proved the constant activity of this huge area protected by the Wall. I liked the view of this city from Noctis apartment but much more from this place. We had the feeling that we were some god, observing with distance the millions of humans hurrying to go to work or to go playing arcade games. I was one of these with Noctis and Prompto. We defied each other until the sun rose or until we were called by our duties- mainly the princes ones. Then we separated from each other, promising that we would take our revenge and beat the ass of the others. Sometimes, I spent my day with Prompto, when we didnt have something more interesting to do. We went to cinema, hanging outside or chilling on my sofa. When we met again with Noctis, he sulked because of his jealousy, so I teased him and all went back to normal when he smiled without wanting to. Sometimes I went to the Citadel and walked through the alleys waiting for Noctis to stop his meeting or to practice fighting with Gladiolus. Other days, I spent hours with Ignis in the kitchen, testing new recipes or sharing ours. It wasnt always great but we learned from our mistakes and completed each other. I was enthusiastic and energetic, giving some joyful atmosphere with my music and he called me back to put baking powder so I would not fail my brioches again, smiling from my dumb actions. All these moments, I had them in pictures, thanks to Prompto that let me use his camera or took them himself when he had to judge our new dresses with Iris after a long day of shopping. I loved these sweet days, when we shared good time together. But this evening, the view wasnt the view of an illuminated and living city. It was the view of ruins. Ruins that broke my heart. Insomnia fell to the hands of our enemy and was now entirely destroyed. The night was falling, making the sky dark and threatening, giving the ruins a gloomier aspect. I shivered when I thought about what might happened. I surely lost my family. Not a single of them answered the phone. My only friends were by my side, it was certainly enough. My three friends were preparing the camp for this night. We werent strong enough, emotionally and physically, to go to our next destination this evening. Noctis and I were contemplating quietly what was left from this beloved place. Tears began to run along my cheeks while I tempted to reassure myself. All the lights of the city were off, leaving the moon as the only source of light we could see from miles. The rest of the landscape was dark, like plunged into mourning. I took Noctis hand, not saying a word, and squeezed it with strength. I was fighting the angst that didnt allow me to breathe. If he stood by my side, I thought that I could handle everything. Noctis, hurt by my hand, turned his head towards me and caught my eyes. Soon, his grimace disappeared soon to let a worrying expression take place on his face. Before he even could say something, I turned my head to the sky and started to sing, trying to not let my sobbing out and with a trembling voice:

« If the sky that we look upon should tumble and fall, Or the mountains should crumble to the sea I wont cry, I wont cry. No, I wont shed a tear. Just as long as you stand, stand by me »

My voice was cut by my tears that I couldnt handle behind my eyelids. Noctis took me in his arms, in order to comfort me. We stayed like that a long time sharing our pain without moving our lips again to say something. After what seemed like hours, Ignis called us for dinner. Noctis started to stood up slowly and painfully because of the position he stayed in for a long moment, but I stopped him by grabbing his arm. I made him promise me that even if we met problems and he put himself in trouble, he will stand by me. We finally stood up and joined the band with heavy hearts and the desire to forget everything. As long as he stands by me
