A/N: Prompt: Soulmates
-oOo-
"Mummy, what is a soulmate?"
Hermione Potter sat her book on the coffee table in front of her. She looked down at her youngest child, the same brown eyes boring into hers with sheepish curiosity. Rose's arms clutched a stuffed dog to her chest, messy auburn hair braided messily and her body swaying side to side innocently.
Hermione uncrossed her legs and sat up straight. She reached in front of her to grab her book and the marker to save her spot. She gently patted the couch beside her and Rose eagerly jumped up onto the sofa and onto her lap.
Hermione turned her so they were face to face, and she had a little grin playing on her lips. "Now where on earth did you hear about that?" She asked, exaggerated curiosity dripping in her tone.
"Tina and her friends were talking about it," Rose responded as if it were the most basic piece of knowledge in the universe. "Anne-Marie said that it was when two people are perfect for each other, and that they have the most perfect relationship in the whole world!"
Hermione arched an eyebrow and cocked her head to the side in wonder. "Really? Well, that would sum it up, yes?"
Rose groaned and tilted her head back, her large brown eyes rolling dramatically. " No! That's all I heard before Ed and Teddy and their friends started teasing them!" She practically wailed. "What would a perfect match be like? Please, Mummy, you have to know! You know everything!"
Hermione couldn't help the little chuckle that escaped her lips. "Well," she drawled, placing the tip of her finger to her chin in a false and very exaggerated thinking face, " I think that they would have a perfectly sized house for just the two of them, and they'd always be eating the most wonderful foods every night for dinner, and maybe play some games. And then, they'd start expanding their home,"
"But why?" pouted Rose.
Hermione let out another small laugh and pinched her daughter's cheek. "So they could have more room for crazy little monkeys to run around!" She quipped.
However, Rose did not laugh or swat her hand away like Hermione expected her to, and instead she gasped and beamed up at her. "Like you and Daddy!" She exclaimed. Hermione, who had gone to take a sip of her tea, coughed and sputtered in very untimely surprise while her brain took its sweet time trying to reboot.
"Yeah," she choked after a good few minutes, "like Daddy and I..."
Rose's rather concerned expression faded into one of pure child-like joy as she giggled. Hermione grinned and kissed her head softly, just as a loud creak from the far end of the house echoed into their room. Rose leapt off her mother's lap and three other children came bounding down the stairs, and a chorus of four very excited children yelling for their father rang through the house.
Hermione winced and grabbed her side as she stood up and walked to where all of her kids had run off to. She leaned against the wall, smiling as she saw her husband with Rose in his arms and their other children crowding around him, all three yelling about their day and each other (though, most of what they said about their siblings were negative).
Harry looked up from the three small humans, three of which had, at some point, gotten themselves into a wrestling tournament, and the grin on his face widened. He ushered them off to their rooms — how, Hermione would never know — and told them to get ready for supper. Gently, he set Rose on her feet and sent her off with a hug before turning to his wife, one of his eyebrows raised jaggedly.
